Last night as I was preparing dinner I glanced across the kitchen and saw this prism of light on the cabinet drawer handle. Isn’t it pretty? I was mesmerized by it, so I took a photo of it.

Then a few minutes later I looked outside and saw the clear autumn sky. So naturally I stopped what I was doing again to take a photo of it. I always adore photos of the sky taken through trees.

Looking at these photos all I can think is that life is in the details. Simple moments remembered. Beautiful colors created by the play of light in the early evening that charmed me into taking photos… just because.
I stopped what I was doing just to look at your beautiful pictures. I love the simple moments as well.

Z-D, and that’s one of the reasons that we get along together so well– simple moments! 🙂

Did you find what created the prism of color on the drawer handle? We have crystal figures in our living room windows that throw these prisms at certain times of day. I love them! Your pictures are gorgeous. We all need to stop sometimes to enjoy the little things life has to offer.

Beth, the light was coming through a bud vase [with our last rose in it] that was sitting on the island counter in the middle of the kitchen. It was all quite random.

Such lovely photographs Ally, you’re so right about stopping to notice the details sometimes. It really does add to life doesn’t it? 🙂

I think that it does. But I suppose that there are some folks that would say otherwise. There always are, no matter what you do.

Relyn, me too– although I rarely get a chance to use it in everyday conversation.

Sometimes simple moments are the most memorable and are usually the ones we treasure later on. Love the photos and your spontaneity.

Thanks Margaret. Occasionally I’m in the right place with my camera. Not often, but sometimes.

Yes we do. Which is why I try to pay attention to every little thing– even though sometimes it makes me a crazy person!

I love the prism (and the sky), but I’m a forever design girl! I of course spent several minutes trying to figure out the finish of the cabinet pull and wondering what color the cabinets are…;-)

Kristen, I understand your design interest. I tend to be the same way.
The cabinets are from Brookhaven and are white– not a harsh white, but not a glazed white either. The cabinet pull is also from Brookhaven and is pewter, but not the dirty kind of pewter– more leaning toward satin nickel. So there you have it: clear as mud! 😉

I love both these photos. Perfect.

Thanks. I thought that they came out very well considering I had one eye on the dinner I was making & the other eye on the photo I was snapping. Multitasking, I tell you.

Lovely photos! The rainbow one reminds me of when we were in France this summer and visited a water park (fountains, rather than roller coaster rides and slides). The children were running through the fountains and the way the water was falling caught the light in such a way that the spray looked like rainbows. And then the light changed and they were gone, much like your rainbow I suspect. Right place at the right time. Polly

Polly, your description of what you saw this summer is exactly how this rainbow appeared. It was there all of a sudden– and then gone. I was quite taken by the whole event.
