The Lady Of The List

We’re expecting about 30 people at our holiday party on Friday.  I like that number because that means there will be enough guests for everyone to know someone else here– & to meet someone new as well.  But it does mean that there is a lot of planning going on around here.  To wit, I’ve started living a list-centric life.

At first I was scribbling little lists every which way on scraps of paper, but I kept misplacing the scraps of paper.  No surprise.  I tend to be a bit scattered to begin with.

But being smarter than the average bean bear, I decided to designate one of our clipboards as my own.  Then I purloined a pad of legal paper from Zen-Den, Esq.  Putting these two items together I created The Official Party Planning List.  ‘Tis a wonderful document– that I suspect only makes sense to me.

I’ve also decided that post-it notes are my new BFF.  I write what food I want to be in a certain serving bowl/plate/platter and then put the post-it in/on/under the item so that when my helper elves arrive pre-party they’ll know what to put where.  I feel very managerial.

And on that upbeat note, I’m off to the Kroger to buy a heaping cartload of ingredients to make yumminess.  Which will go into/onto the aforementioned serving bowls/plates/platters.  Which have already been given assigned spots on the tables & counters.  Which is where the people will stand during the party while eating & drinking & talking with each other.

Which will make for a good party.  *yeah*

    • Cheri, from your comment to God’s ear! I think that I have enough of it under control to make me feel comfortable enough to let the rest of it just fall into place. Which for me is a good place to be.

  2. It sounds like great fun – and I’m looking forward to more about the yum yums. But I have to admit, I’m now picturing you putting sticky notes on your guests as they come through the door.

    • Zazzy, yes, yes! That’s what I need to do. I could also put post-its on the floor where I think everyone should stand, so that I could get all the vegans in one area & the junk food eaters in another & the weight watchers in another area. Do you suppose that would be taking things too far?

  3. “List-centric” – you should probably trademark that one! It’s perfect.
(post-it notes come off of guests and floors….preschool teachers use stickers with a specific animal for each kid….one for the place for coats, one for assigned seat, one for cup, one for to assist locating vehicle at end of party…..not taking things too far at all!)
    Sounds like fun

    • winsomebella, you got that right. Fortunately I’m very mellow about getting things back to normal after a party. Every item will get washed in its own good time. Still, if I could get them to wash themselves…

    • Margaret, in the smaller, more friendly, community we used to live in before we moved here, we always had a Christmas party with 75 people. So, to me, this seems tame– and doable.

  4. 30 people would seem like a lot to me. It sure sounds like a lot of fun. For that many people, organization is a very good thing. You want to have everything done ahead of time, so you can enjoy yourself when the actual party comes. 🙂 And having friends to help you? Genius.

    • J, I do want to have some fun at this party so that’s why I’ve become the Lady of the List. If it’s all planned out + I have helper elves, I can relax with a glass or two of wine along with our guests. *yeah*

  5. It makes me smile that we both loved Trixie. I never much liked Nancy. I wanted to, but she was too solitary for me. I dreamed of being a Bobwhite – not a Lone Ranger. You know?
