No Razzamatazz Here

Today, instead of talking about pulse-pounding razzamatazz, I’m going to talk about the exact opposite, yawn-worthy dullness.

This current dullness has manifested itself in what I believe is a most ridiculous way.  You see, here at Chez Bean we are experiencing a dearth of twisty ties.  Yes, we have almost run out of those little wire doodads that you use to close plastic bags.

In fact, we only have FOUR unused twisty ties in the house.  That’s it.

We used to have about four hundred thousand million of those things floating around in various kitchen drawers.  But now they are so rare [and precious] that I even know what color they are: 3 beige and 1 orange.  I watch over them as if they were made of gold.

This is sad.  And dull.  And would not be worthy of note here except that it allows me to ask you, gentle readers, a question:

what kind of yawn-worthy dullness are you currently dealing with in your life?

I’ve fessed up.  Now it’s your turn to do the same.  In the comments below.  If you please.

  1. I am struggling with the unbelievably dull situation of never having enough room. This house is too small and doesn’t have enough storage, so if I want to reach for something, I am obliged to move something else first. For instance, if I need my French Dictionary, I have to move the footstool and lap top in order to get to the shelf. Five minutes ago I reached for my comb and knocked a pen and pencil off the shelf. If I am less than careful about taking the ironing board out of the cupboard, it is more than likely I will knock the peg bag and contents down from it’s hook and all over the floor. Aaargh! On the plus side, I’m not letting it get me down. Further pluses, I don’t have to worry about running out of those wire closer things, because I dislike them intensely. They go in the bin as soon as I open a new roll of freezer bags. Maybe I should post them to you? You would never run out then. 🙂 Px

    • Polly, I feel your pain. I’ve lived in small places like you describe and it is exasperating. Being careful like that slows down every activity– and can take the joie de vivre out of life if you let it.

As for the twisty ties, why do you dislike them so much? Just curious.

  2. Well, life has been rather too exciting here lately. But I can solve your twisty tie problem unless you need them for throwing away stuff. I have a draw full of plastic clippy things that replace twisty ties and as a bonus, don’t require me to twist little pieces of wire around stuff. Yep, that’s how exciting I really am. Attempting to solve the world’s twisty tie shortage one inspiring story at a time.

    • robin, thank you. I believe that twisty ties deserve a bit of attention every now and again. So useful, yet so overlooked. Poor things. Wish I knew where all of ours have gone…

    • kate, cats are known twisty tie thieves. I’d forgotten about that. Of course, we have no cats anymore so that doesn’t really explain where all of our twisty ties went. It does, however, explain why life around here can be dull on occasion.

  3. I’m dealing with a lot of death related paperwork and trying to figure out how to sell my late husband’s tools and vehicles. It’s very dull and time-consuming. Bah.

    • Margaret, yes, you’re dealing with the ultimate yawn-worthy dullness. I’ve been executrix of an estate and it’s a kind of tedium that you cannot fathom until you deal with it. Bah, indeed.

  4. You crack me up. I don’t think I can compete with the Amazing Twist Tie Shortage. Hmmm…. tired of winter-dry skin, but that’s easy to fix. Just gotta use my after-shower lotion tip.

    • Relyn, your concern regarding our twisty tie crisis here at Chez Bean is appreciated. Some people just naturally understand how difficult yawn-worthy dullness can be. 😉

And now that you mention it, I have winter-dry skin going on too. Probably should follow your lotion tip as well. Thanks for reminding me.

  5. Hi Ally. Just sitting at the airport catching up on the blogs I like to read (of course yours is one of them) and when I read this, I smiled broadly. It struck me as sooo funny. Hope that doesn’t offend you, but it is cute. I guess having a 3-hr layover in Atlanta is pretty dull. . .enjoy your day.

    • Cheri, I’m glad that you laughed. That was my point, really. Not everything on a blog needs be deep and meaningful, because not everything in life is deep and meaningful. ‘Ya know?
