Are You Reeling In The ‘Burbs?

“The weekend at the college, Didn’t turn out like you planned.  The things that pass for knowledge, I can’t understand.”

So my weekend didn’t go as I planned.

First, there wasn’t any sunlight which meant that we couldn’t seal the granite counters and tumbled stone backsplash in the kitchen.  This is an annual project that we do at the beginning of March.  It takes two days in all to get it done– AND it requires sunlight to get it done right.  Naturally, it being the first weekend in March I had planned on doing this project, but Mother Nature, she be fickle.

So we didn’t do it.

Then second, I didn’t feel good– as in intestinal distress and a sore throat.  So my plan for us to attend the home show was a no-go.  The last place I wanted to be was in the middle of a huge convention center, surrounded by people and strollers.  I could only envision the worst possible scenario with me needing a bathroom now– and no fast way to get to one.

So we didn’t go.

But the weekend wasn’t a total bust.  Zen-Den watched basketball [*yawn*] and various movies that were on TV.  Movies like The Karate Kid and Catch Me If You Can and Lady and the Tramp.  While I drank hot tea, huddled in blankets and advanced to Level 15 [of 16 levels] on my iPad Tetris game.

So there’s that.

What did you do this past weekend?  Something exciting?  Or were you as dull as we were?

  1. You improvised, adapted, overcame. Clint Eastwood would be proud. He would tell you so, except of course you are a real person and not an empty chair. Boo-yah!!!

  2. Sorry you didn’t get your “planned” weekend. Mine wasn’t the greatest either. I guess the positives are that I did work out both Saturday and Sunday. (I am feeling the pain though). Hope you get to feeling better. Drink lots of tea! Any by the way, I love Steely Dan.

    • Cheri, something just did not click for me this last weekend, but I feel better now.

I thought about you on Sunday hoping that you weren’t in too much pain from your Saturday exercise class. Glad that you made it back for a second workout. That sounds so much more exciting [and productive] than my weekend.

  3. My weekend was great, but definitely not as I expected! We went out to a grand re-opening of an independent bookstore that I hadn’t planned on attending (surprise) followed by dinner at a seafood restaurant where I actually ordered grilled shrimp and loved it (surprise – I usually hate anything that swims in the sea). Then we did a little bit of shopping and we cleaned out my entire closet, the front hall closet, and our shoe/jacket rack also in the front hall. The front hall closet has been a Charlie Brown/Monica from Friends closet since about 2005. We’ve always been “planning” to get these spaces cleaned out, but of course avoided it. Then my husband just said, we’re doing it right now (surprise)! So almost 3 hours later, and it is all done – the charity shops will be very happy with us this month! 🙂 I hope you feel better!!

    • Kristen, what a fun weekend! You are an inspiration to me. Perhaps next weekend will be that exciting for us. I think that you’ll agree that we have nowhere to go, but up.

  4. It was a ‘burbs weekend, in that it was errands and family stuff. This grey, cold, snowy weather is making me draggy and tired. We had a little sun, but it is just too cold for me. Feel better!

    • We had gray weather, too. But there were these cute, little snowflakes that drifted down all weekend. No accumulation, just something pretty to look at. So when I was bored w/ Tetris, I watched it snow. The excitement never ended here!

  5. Sorry about your weekend. Sure hope you’re feeling better today:)
Saturday, after taking Mozart a walk at the Revolutionary War site, we drove to Columbia to shop–went to a garden center to get Brandon’s girlfriend a birthday gift. Then drove on to Morgan’s to help her make a table top for her classroom; then took her to dinner. Tim worked on taxes when we got home–that’s his job!
Yesterday was our winter band concert. Brandon and Stephanie came, as did a guy that Tim works with and his wife. We all went to dinner afterwards. So not a huge get it done weekend, but fun.

  6. I love what you did! It sounds perfect to me. I was at a retirement seminar most of the weekend and it was GOOD, but tiring. I was around a bunch of other teachers which was alternately annoying and interesting. Teachers are not the best audience; we’re used to being in charge/presenting so we often misbehave. I didn’t though. (first born, eager to please child here) Hope your icky symptoms are gone.

    • Margaret, I hope that you learned something useful at your seminar. I know what you mean about a bunch of teachers. They are prone to tangents and being the center of attention. I grew up around teachers, so I know whereof I speak. And yes, I am feeling better. Thanks for your concern.

    • Lynne, yes we are. Once a year. With some product made specially for granite. When we had our kitchen remodeled a few years ago the kitchen design firm was very emphatic about this point. So we do what we were told to do.

  7. Hope you are feeling better! I am recovering from what they told me was minor surgery. My weekend was spend feeling like sh*t. I can’t wait to feel like me again.

  8. Hot tea, blanket, Lady and the Tramp – could have been worse. (think: no power?)
    Hope you are feeling better.
We’ve had mild weather – but wildly windy. Trying to get some yard work done before it is hotter than blazes and I’m stuck inside.
(and yes granite takes care…but not when you have sore throat and tummy that doesn’t need fumes!)
    Warmth sent your way!
