“So let it be written. So let it be done.”
~ Yul Brynner Rameses, The Ten Commandments

As I was driving back into our subdivision late Saturday afternoon, I came upon a traffic jam. This is unusual because unlike some subdivisions, we have different ways in and out of this area.
As I sat there, not moving, I wondered what the hold-up was all about.
Then I saw the sign. It was a handwritten sign, propped up against some large blue + white Coleman coolers. The sign explained it all. It said:
LEMONADE
Around this sign + coolers were three adorable, yelling, jumping entrepreneurs who had set up their lemonade stand in such a way as to get business from the traffic coming toward them in three directions.
These were clever girls. With oodles of energy– and the persuasive powers of a pharaoh.
So, like all the other dutiful suburbanites in the cars ahead of me, I bought some lemonade– which turned out to be red fruit punch. And being of a kind nature, I purchased a large cup for 75¢– which was a half-filled 16 oz plastic cup. And then, because service with a smile is so rare these days, I tipped the young entrepreneurs 33%.
Some people may believe that Spring arrives when nature says it is the right time, but for me it’s officially Spring when I spot my first lemonade stand and get suckered into buying a cup.

Happy Spring, everyone! It is finally here.

So funny that you would post this. I, too, purchased lemonade from two children. Their cups were 6 oz filled half-way for a quarter. I gave them a dollar just to see how big their smiles could get. It was worth it!

Cheri, these girls were hilarious. Delightful, really. I only had a buck with me, so that’s all I could give them– but they seemed thrilled with it. Such enthusiasm.

Wow. A lemonade/Kool Aid stand already. True, we almost made it to 80 here in NEO, but that’s just Way Quick. It was pure heaven having windows open, airing out the house. I am SO READY for spring!

nance, it was warm enough over the weekend to open up the house. ‘Twas delightful, I tell ‘ya. So combined with the appearance of a lemonade stand, I decided to declare it officially Spring.

Oh how I’d love to see a lemonade stand. Here, spring is foretold by a decrease in snowbirds and homeless people who start heading back north, and an increased # of adults selling bottled water and lychees at intersections. I am proud to say that Miami is the only city I know of that has a man selling socks at a traffic light. How many times have you wished for a curbside sock vendor?

Rachal, I love it! I want to experience a curbside sock vendor. Maybe the kids around here are thinking too small with this lemonade stand concept. They need to think: socks.

Yep -it’s the kids and lemonade – and opening the windows. (that show has some great quotes – even if the sets are so goofy compared to today’s special effects)

That is very cute and what a good feeling. On a different note, I saw Yul Brynner in The King and I in Seattle many years ago and he was MESMERIZING. What a great actor!

Margaret, how cool that you saw Yul Brenner live, on stage. Some actors are so good like that. Fun for you!
