As Per NaBloPoMo: Make New Friends, But Keep The Old

I.  I’ve enjoyed June 2014 NaBloPoMo [done my way].  The theme of this month’s challenge is: COMMENTS.  There are daily prompts associated with this challenge, but I haven’t answered any of them.  I’ve been lazy, but admit to feeling guilty about my behavior.

II.  To make up for my slothiness re: answering specific prompts, I thought that right here, right now I’d share MY GENERAL PHILOSOPHY ON PERSONAL BLOG COMMENTS.

  1. I like them.  I leave them.  And so should you.
  2. My blog, my rules.  Therefore, if I consider a commenter to be a troll, flying monkey or spammer, I’ll delete what he/she/it says without comment.  [Yes, that’s a bit of irony.]
  3. Blogs have comment sections.  I won’t return to a personal blog without a comment section because a blog without comments is just another webpage.

III.  Today’s prompt is: “Write on Someone Else’s Blog Day: instead of writing a post on your own blog, go leave five comments. It still counts as writing!”  Here are the 5 NaBloPoMo bloggers who did as instructed [or other first time commenters who came here] to LEAVE A COMMENT FOR ME.  I’ll fill this in later because today I’ll be out leaving comments on other NaBloPoMo bloggers’ blogs.  [Obviously.]

  1. You can’t punch people just because you want pancakes has to be the BEST QUOTE EVER!:D LOL. Don’t worry about the theme, I never follow it either. I just try to take the challenge of posting every day, which is easier this time of year for me. I look forward to reading more of your posts.

  2. I love checking in every day with you to see what you’ve posted. The posts are always interesting and a good insight to your thinking. You know I’ve always thought that you were a great writer!
    Little kids say the funniest things! That’s why I usually enjoyed my job with them:)

  3. My only problem with the video is that, clearly, you CAN punch people just because you want pancakes. He did it, so he proved it to be true. Now, will the punching GET him any pancakes? Clearly not.

    Regarding comments…one downside to Facebook is that sometimes I link to my blog there, trying to get traffic to my blog, and my FB friends leave comments on FB instead of the blog. Not good.

    • J, you make a good point. 😉 But I’m betting that the kid who punched got the essence of what Dad was saying: no punching, no pancakes.

      I didn’t know that about FB, but I can see how that could happen. Occasionally that happens to me when I connect a post to my Twitter stream and someone tweets about it over there.

      Different communication mediums appeal to different people, I guess.

  4. Thanks for leaving me a comment today! I’m not doing NaBloPoMo this month (someday, maybe?). I really struggled with comments on my blog. At first I didn’t have them because I was worried that it would be too much of a commitment. Now I have them, and I appreciate all the ones I get!

    Also, hilarious video. I only wish I knew of pancakes that were so good, I’d punch somebody for them!

    • Maria, comments are always problematic. I like them, but I agree that there is a commitment to keeping up with them. Like you, I appreciate all the ones that I get.

      Now that you mention it, I don’t know of any pancakes that good either. But apparently that little boy does. Too funny.

  5. You are always so great about responding to comments which is part of the pressure that you put on yourself. Many bloggers don’t even acknowledge a comment; it’s difficult to know if they’ve even read them. I try to e-mail a response because sometimes what I want to say is private. 🙂

    • Margaret, thanks for the compliment. You do the same, of course.

      I couldn’t keep a blog without acknowledging comments and responding to them. That’d be bad manners.

      In fact, one of the deciding factors in me doing this particular NaBloPoMo was the topic: comments. I thought that sounded like there’d be a group of like-minded bloggers involved in it. So far, not so much. 😦

  6. Sometimes I’m a little late along but I do try to keep up if I possibly can. I love the eclectic mix of things on your blog – a confession, a summary, a list. What more could I ask for? As for the video, it’s amazing what I find myself saying when mediating fights or trying to explain something. Sentences that would otherwise count as utter rubbish, such as “you can’t punch people because you want pancakes”. Clearly it made perfect sense to the little man, and the explanation just flummoxed him. So funny. 🙂 🙂 🙂

    • Polly, thank you for saying all of this. I could never keep a niche blog because I get bored too easily, so I hit upon this eclectic mix of whatever crosses my path. For better or worse.

      And as for the video, I don’t know when anything has entertained me like it. The dad made his point, the child got it– and I can’t stop laughing about it. Talk about a win-win-win.

    • nance, I’m not sure what that kid says exactly. Clearly he has issues and they revolve around the lack of pancakes in his life. In fact, some days I find myself contemplating how much better my life would be if I had some pancakes, but I’ve never thought about hitting anyone to get some. 🙂

    • Cheri, I can’t figure out why you don’t get emails either. I haven’t cut you off or anything like that. There’s something wonky in the WP system. Maybe it’s because your blog is private? And somehow that disrupts the delivery to you? [Stretching here.] 😦

        • In the WP Reader I unfollowed you, then added you again. Also, I checked all of my options for this blog. They are all open to anyone who wants to follow me. It’s weird. I’ll give you that.

          • I am following you in my reader. . .but I don’t really use that. LOL I like seeing the updates come through on my email instead. Maybe I just need to make a new habit and look at my reader each morning. 🙂

            • Cheri, that’s interesting. I know some people get an email from this blog, so it can be done. Now I’m wondering why the system is refusing to send one to you. I’ll look into that.

              On a different note, I use the WP reader all the time. I find that by using it I can keep up with more bloggers in a more efficient way. But, like you mentioned, I did have to train myself to check it every day.
