I’ve gotten away from talking about our home redecoration projects here on The Spectacled Bean. I don’t know why, because they continue on behind the scenes and influence my life every day.
Often because the project is in the middle of everything.

That being said, now that I’m in the final days of NaBloPoMo June 2014 and I need something to write about, I’ll revert to my blogging roots and tell you what we’re up to around Chez Bean.
In July or August when furniture goes on sale, we are going to buy a new sofa and chair for the TV room. This is why the current sofa got itself moved into the kitchen. I needed to get an idea of what the TV room would look like without a large blue object influencing me.

Now having seen the TV room, sans blue, with my makeshift ottoman-esque example of what a khaki-gold sofa might look like against the wall, I think that a neutral-colored, nubby-textured sofa and chair will look great in this room. With lots of colorful pillows, of course.
So that, my gentle readers, is what’s going on here… right now… in the middle of our kitchen.
THE SPECTACLED BEAN 
So funny! I got the nubby off white creamy loveseat and wished I would have gotten the blue! The problem with big furniture is that you don’t know how it will look until it’s in and then it’s too late! I should have gotten a loveseat that matches my cats. That would be dull gray.

kate, I agree. I never know how an upholstered piece of furniture is going to look before it gets here, so I thought that I’d try to create the look of a sofa before we bought one. Of course, now the old blue sofa seems to be permanently ensconced in the middle of the kitchen while I dither about fabric choices. Ain’t life a pip?

I kind of like the idea of a comfortable sofa and chairs in the kitchen area, where people could sit and chat while I cook. But it makes sense to me to get the blue couch out of the tv room. It’s hard to picture something different. Pity you can’t do what tv designers do and bring in all sorts of expensive stuff just to see how it looks.

Zazzy, I agree that a comfy chair in the kitchen would be nice. Maybe the next house! In the meantime because I’m not a TV designer, I’ll have to make do with my imagination when it comes to our next purchases. *sigh*

Andra, there’s something to be said for that idea. However, if you do that I would not recommend a large blue sofa in the middle of the room. Against the wall, if you have the space, would be cool. But in your way, in the middle of the room– not so convenient.

Our old sofa is in the garage right now awaiting it’s new life with Morgie. We bought a new tweed, khaki/greenish/neutral sofa last month. I love it! It matches all the other furniture in the room.

Beth, a sofa in a garage is smart. A sofa in the middle of any room, especially the kitchen, is not so smart! Your new one sounds beautiful, btw.

When we were getting new carpet in our family room, the loveseat was in the kitchen. I’m trying to remember where the huge entertainment center was. Hmmm.

Margaret, so the question is: did you like the loveseat in the kitchen so much that you left it there?!! Many commenters have suggested that having a piece of upholstered furniture in the kitchen would be nice. I’m just saying… 😉

No, we didn’t like it there because it was in the middle of the room. We already had a table and chairs in the nook.

Imagine that! No place for a loveseat in the kitchen. I wonder who would have the space? It’d have to be a very large kitchen to accommodate one.

Northern Star, thank you. And yes, this sofa is so in the way that it’s becoming less of a nuisance and more of a conversation piece every day. I really have to decide about the fabric on the new sofa + chair soon, lest the blue sofa become a permanent feature in the kitchen!

Oh, your house looks so comfortable and pretty ( no gnawed window sills)
We have a couch from the last house in what was supposed to be either where the treadmill would go – or my desk. Husband like it and it is comfy and in good shape, but it needs to live somewhere else. Nobody sits on it. How come it gets a room and I don’t?
Warning Get that couch out now – before you get lulled into accepting it. Cruel, but stay strong!

philmouse, you’re so right when you say that I must stay strong. I can learn from your example. Must not get acclimated to sofa in kitchen or it’ll never make its way to the basement, where I intend for it to go. Very soon.

Just Me, I like color so the pillows are going to have to bring it on. Especially now that, after having a blue sofa all these years, I’m hooked on the idea of having a neutral sofa. I’ll need the color.

Everyone should have a sofa in the middle of their kitchen. (Or couch, as we call em.) Ours is four feet from our kitchen table–permanently–so I totally understand.

Ah, the joys of home improvement. I’ve had my kitchen in my dining room, my dining room in my living room, and my living room in my dining room and kitchen.
When my children started their various migrations, I’ve had apartments in my garage and basements, too.
And Kathy? We called our couch/sofa a “davenport” for years and years at home.

nance, my mother always called the couch/sofa a davenport, too! Interesting considering we’re both about the same age and grew up in the same state. I wonder where that word came from? [Too tired to research it right now. Maybe later.]

Wasn’t there a Douglas Adams book about Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency in which a sofa was stuck in a stairwell/landing– and the computer couldn’t figure out how to move it? The story was something like that.

I don’t know if everyone HAS a sofa in the middle of their kitchen, but maybe they should. It’s the most popular room in the house by the way…love the photos of your humble abode. Looks like a cozy place.

jennie, I think there’s something to be said for have a sofa in the kitchen, if there is a place for the sofa. Next house, maybe I’ll make that a priority. But as long as we are here, no sofa in the kitchen.
