Catching A Train To Nowhere, I Am This Week

IMG_2564

Some weeks I feel as if I’m getting nowhere.

As if I’m sitting at the station waiting for a train that I hope will go somewhere, but realize may go nowhere.

I know where I want to get to.  I can see what needs to be done.

But because I’m waiting for something outside my control to happen, I’m unable to decide what to do next.

So here I sit. Bored. Impatient.

Thinking that life could be more exciting than this, yet knowing that it often isn’t filled with adventure.

And if I am to be truthful, feeling apprehensive about what’s going to be asked of me next.

When the train gets here.  Where I am.

Eventually.

  1. My train has been stalled all week. I’m just operating in a daze. Maybe just trying to catch up to the fast train from last week. I hope you catch yours soon!

    • Beth, I know what you mean. Last week was busy for me, too. Now this week I’m tired, but oh so ready to decide a few things. If only the right train comes along… soon.

  2. MAybe it’s the moon phase of something. You expressed what I’m feeling so well.
I’m not sure what’s holding it up here either…take the baggage off or put it on but stop repeatedly doing both over and over.
As tiring as actually moving forward.

  3. I loved this! Made me think about what I am waiting for as well.. and how to get going to do it, even when not all is in my control. That is the hard one.

  4. For some reason reading this post (and I, too, have been there) made me think of something Paul Arden (An advertising creative director like Don Draper on Mad Men but in real life.) once said:
“If you get stuck, draw with a different pen. Change your tools; it may free your thinking.”

      • Maybe not now but you never know what your subconscious will grab onto. Arden’s quote may float around in there for a days, months, years, and then BLAM! it turns into something useful….or maybe only my mind works that way. 😉

        • la p, my mind works that way too. Lots of times I don’t know what I know until I sit down to write about it– and out of seemingly nowhere a quote floats into my brain. Helpful for blogging, I will say. 🙂

  5. A train to nowhere makes me think of one of the best Twilight Zone episodes ever, “Stopover in a Quiet Town”… also known as the only TZ episode to feature a cameo by a squirrel. All aboard!

      • It was the episode where the couple wakes up the morning after a big party and finds themselves in a strange, deserted town. In one of the scenes, they try to catch a train that they hope will lead them out of the creepy village… only to find out the train goes in a big circle. It had one of the best payoffs of any episode in the series when it’s revealed at the end that they were abducted by giant aliens who placed them in a model town to live the rest of their lives…

  6. Ah, I felt that too, and then sometimes you realize you’ve been waiting for the wrong train and the right train has been behind you the whole time waiting for you to board.

    • Letizia, you are so right. I’ve been waiting for the wrong train. Figured that out over the weekend, making your comment timely. And apt. Thanks for stopping by to get me on the right track! 😉
