Some weeks I feel as if I’m getting nowhere.
As if I’m sitting at the station waiting for a train that I hope will go somewhere, but realize may go nowhere.
I know where I want to get to. I can see what needs to be done.
But because I’m waiting for something outside my control to happen, I’m unable to decide what to do next.
So here I sit. Bored. Impatient.
Thinking that life could be more exciting than this, yet knowing that it often isn’t filled with adventure.
And if I am to be truthful, feeling apprehensive about what’s going to be asked of me next.
When the train gets here. Where I am.
Eventually.
I sometimes feel like that too. And then I realize the train has been moving all this time, and if I’m not careful, I’ll miss it.

Carrie, I love that! Maybe the train is moving so fast that I can’t see it? I am rather nearsighted.

I know this feeling all too well. Sometimes it’s me who is holding me up. My engine gets stalled and the crank won’t work.

Kate, usually I’m the same way. I stall out all the time. But this week, I’m ready to roll… and missing the information that I need to get going. Botheration, I say.

My train has been stalled all week. I’m just operating in a daze. Maybe just trying to catch up to the fast train from last week. I hope you catch yours soon!

Beth, I know what you mean. Last week was busy for me, too. Now this week I’m tired, but oh so ready to decide a few things. If only the right train comes along… soon.

MAybe it’s the moon phase of something. You expressed what I’m feeling so well.
I’m not sure what’s holding it up here either…take the baggage off or put it on but stop repeatedly doing both over and over.
As tiring as actually moving forward.

philmouse, it’s weird, isn’t it? Can’t quite get it together despite trying to do so. I agree about the baggage on OR off. Great way of thinking about it.

I loved this! Made me think about what I am waiting for as well.. and how to get going to do it, even when not all is in my control. That is the hard one.

lovetotrav, I think that it’s hardwired into me [and you?] that I need to get things done NOW. But the reality is that sometimes I gotta wait… which tends to make me anxious… like I’ll forget what it is I’m supposed to be doing.
This week. That.

Yes, I know. You feel guilty when you have that list in your head even if now, might not be the right time.

For some reason reading this post (and I, too, have been there) made me think of something Paul Arden (An advertising creative director like Don Draper on Mad Men but in real life.) once said:
“If you get stuck, draw with a different pen. Change your tools; it may free your thinking.”

la p, good quote. Sound idea. If only it was always that easy! This week, I believe, it wouldn’t matter what pen I used! 😉

Maybe not now but you never know what your subconscious will grab onto. Arden’s quote may float around in there for a days, months, years, and then BLAM! it turns into something useful….or maybe only my mind works that way. 😉

la p, my mind works that way too. Lots of times I don’t know what I know until I sit down to write about it– and out of seemingly nowhere a quote floats into my brain. Helpful for blogging, I will say. 🙂

A train to nowhere makes me think of one of the best Twilight Zone episodes ever, “Stopover in a Quiet Town”… also known as the only TZ episode to feature a cameo by a squirrel. All aboard!

evilsquirrel13, really? A squirrel in TZ? Of course, you’d know that! No wonder you like it so much. I don’t remember that episode.

It was the episode where the couple wakes up the morning after a big party and finds themselves in a strange, deserted town. In one of the scenes, they try to catch a train that they hope will lead them out of the creepy village… only to find out the train goes in a big circle. It had one of the best payoffs of any episode in the series when it’s revealed at the end that they were abducted by giant aliens who placed them in a model town to live the rest of their lives…

I don’t remember that episode at all, but it sounds delightfully wacko. Thanks for the synopsis and the photo is perfect. It’s all about the squirrel, right?

Remember to enjoy the journey, without being so focused on the destination. Trains leave at many times and in many ways.

Margaret, good advice. Have you been talking with Zen-Den about this? You two are on the same page!

Margaret, I can relate. I like to get. things. done. But you both are right– chill out, take a different train!

Ah, I felt that too, and then sometimes you realize you’ve been waiting for the wrong train and the right train has been behind you the whole time waiting for you to board.

Letizia, you are so right. I’ve been waiting for the wrong train. Figured that out over the weekend, making your comment timely. And apt. Thanks for stopping by to get me on the right track! 😉
