As Pumpkins As My Witness, I’ll Never Be Cluttered Again

Good Morning!

I’m pulling together a post today, the first full day of Daylight Savings Time, by using this delightful Halloween photo, taken yesterday, and by re-wording a famous quote.

After all, what is a blog but a place to let your freak flag fly?

Especially on a Monday morning after a lazy Sunday in which I never got out of my jammies, but did manage to photograph our jack-o-lanterns.

Oh happy day!

But now that it’s Monday morning I’m feeling the need to accomplish something.

The muse of productivity, and my inner Katie Scarlett O’Hara, are telling me to apply myself to what is directly in front of me, take control of the situation, and get on with life.

That is, in a word, DECLUTTER.

Meaning that today I’ll be putting things away in the places where they belong. Sorting through piles of magazines + catalogues + recipes. Reviewing and filing important scribbled notes for future decorating and writing projects.

So with a hat tip to GWTW I’ve begun to chant to myself: “they’re not going to lick me. I’m going to live through this and when it’s all over, I’ll never be disorganized again.”

To me, this chant seems motivational.  To you, it might seem nuts, but if I end up with a tidy house and know where things are, who’ll be laughing then?

Hmmm?!

[ALSO:  I know how you people think.  So let me say right here that if you, gentle readers, go all Rhett Butler and say you don’t give a damn, I wouldn’t believe you.

Why?  Because if you’ve read this far down you do care about me!  So say something nice.  I need all the encouragement I can get and it’ll be good karma for you.]

  1. Doing the same thing here. Just went through clothes and have three bags to take to Second Look charity store. It feels so good to get rid of the clutter! But of course, I still have all my knick knacks sitting around……some other day for that…..maybe if we downsize one more time and move to the beach! Best of luck to you never being disorganized again!

  2. Who am I to judge ( with stuff still out of place from recent flooring projects…if the quarter round ever gets put down, maybe then…but it will have to stop raining in order to complete staining the quarter round..so just step over stuff and try to maintain sanity…I swear, I’m going to sell all the tools)
But your pumpkins seem really amused by something going on there.
Little do they know that Smashing Pumpkins isn’t all high notes?
Crush that mess – the clutter – not the pumpkins! Noooooo

    • philmouse, oh man. We’ve had floors installed– lovely when finished BUT a huge mess in process. Your disorder trumps my mess by a long shot.

Yes, our pumpkins will soon find themselves tossed into the forest primeval, but until they’re gone they’re making me smile. They look all-knowing, don’t they?

  3. My bar counter needs work, as do many of my kitchen cabinets. And my bonus room. AND several closets. It’s easy to talk myself out of anything since it all seems so overwhelming. I’m impressed that you are jumping into it!

    • Margaret, every so often I decide that I can conquer the clutter– and sometimes I do. But really it’s insanity to even think that I might get control over all this clutter. It’s sneaky stuff, get rid of it in one place and it relocates to another place.

  4. Something nice. There. Well Ally, you did ask me to say “Something nice.” And besides, now the only clutter you’ll ever have, is when you come to visit me at “My Attic.” Hey, this is turning out to be a pretty good day all the way around! 😀
