I’M A CHEERFUL CYNIC about this time of the year. Not really a fan of all the seasonal hoopla, but I can see the positive in it.
So as my last blog post of the year, I’ll leave you, gentle readers, with 3 simple rules.
~ ~ • ~ ~
1) PLAY NICE WITH OTHERS.
2) BE GOOD TO YOUR FAMILY.
3) MAKE THINGS PRETTY.
~ ~ • ~ ~
AND WITH THAT, I say to you an Irish toast:
“Merry met and merry part, I drink to thee with all my heart.”
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year, everyone.
See you next year.
Honest to Pete, I’ve had more trouble publishing this simple little post than you can possibly imagine. It’s here now. More or less like I want it to look. Really, it’s time for me to take a break from blogging. Oy vey.

My dad’s funeral would be real if he ever pulled the stunt in video number two.
Cheers and Happy New Year!

Allie, wasn’t that something? I don’t quite know what to make of it, so naturally I shared it here. Cheers right back at you. Happy Holidays.

I just saw the horse commercial last night. Loved it! I’ve seen the second one several times and it gets me every time! I hate to wrap gifts, so learned the tissue paper trick long ago. Enjoy your break away and Merry Christmas to you and hubby!

Beth, I adore the lonely pony commercial, makes me smile every time. The second commercial about shaming family into paying attention to you certainly gets its point across. A timely message for many. As is how to use tissue paper properly, one of my pet peeves in life.

Mental Floss had a list of 15 tips and tricks for a stress free holiday season this morning. I think your list is more apropos. Especially #1. That one should be used every day.

Zazamataz, thanks for the compliment. I agree about #1. Why is it so difficult for people to be civil? Will check out the Mental Floss list. Thanks for the head’s up.

Have read the list now. It’s practical, but I disagree with #8. We trim our tree in an entirely different order. But overall, good ideas.

Wow, that second video is so powerful. You might have even sparked a tear in this stoic cynic’s eye with that one. Well done!

Carrie, I know. Keep the tissues handy. That commercial is without a doubt the most poignant/sad/unique Christmas one I’ve ever seen, but you gotta admire how the old guy gets the attention of his offspring. Kudos Grandpa.

A merry, merry Christmas. And a happy New Year. Let’s hope it’s a good one… without any fear. Geez, I have Christmas songs on the brain from listening to them at work. See you in ’16! Give Fuzzy an acorn for me…

Have a good holiday, evilsquirrel13. I’m sure that Fuzzy, in his heart of hearts, will be grateful for the acorn. But I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for a formal thank you note from him. You know how self-absorbed he can be!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Ally. Thanks for putting up the videos. First one is a song and voice from the past- Sonny and Cher’s “Little Man.” Second one is brilliant and touching. Third one makes just wrapping the present look easier. Have a wonderful holiday. 🙂

I didn’t like him playing his family like that. I would have been angry if I had been a family member. I am much more direct and would have let them know my feelings about blowing me off. However, it does make a nice commercial. Have a great break and enjoy the holidays. I will be happy to have my daughters home, although Ashley won’t be back for long.

Margaret, that commercial is fascinating. We’d never see anything like it in the USA. I cannot imagine doing something like that, but if it works…
Enjoy your time with the girls. Happy Christmas and Merry New Year!

That second vid family SUCKS! Poor old guy. I would have had dinner with him just because. And thanks for letting me know I’ve been doing tissue half-right all this time. I’m totes gonna make tissue flower thingys like the lady with nice hands but no head in the video! 🙂
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Tara, I know. I wouldn’t mind having dinner with him. He looks like he knows how to cook and set a pretty table. The how-to use tissue paper is how I’ve always done it, but then I worked in a small card & gift shop so I was I was “trained” to wrap that way.

Enjoy your holiday. Like you, I’m largely irritated by the weeks and weeks of hoopla surrounding it–moreso this year, for some reason–but try to find my own joy among it.
Thanks for offering some fresh perspectives along the way.

nance, I’m finding myself more clear-headed about the holidays this year. I’ve taken a step back, focusing less on the party and more on the people, noticing how people treat each other– and concluding that we need the rules above. 😉
