Just the facts, ma’am…
- I’ve joined the A to Z April Challenge 2016. I’m in the mid-1500s on the list, should you care to find me. There’s still time for any of you, my gentle readers, to join in. Never let it be said that I didn’t invite you.
- I’ve never tried to do this challenge before. When it comes to The Spectacled Bean, I tend to fly by the seat of my pants, so following a schedule, which this challenge requires, looks suspiciously like work to me. But I’ll do my best to keep on track.
- My theme for this challenge will be FOOD: Talking The Talk. I plan on sharing sayings, such as proverbs, idioms, or slang phrases, and a few quotes or product names as examples of how we talk about food, even when we’re not necessarily talking about food.
- I promise, as I go through the alphabet, that I will not be pedantic. In fact, I imagine that this sort of challenge will allow me to flaunt my natural tendency toward flapdoodle and twaddle. With a little snark thrown in for good measure. And occasionally, a few facts.
… That is all.
Good for you. I’ve been strolling through the alphabet myself; no idea that it was/going to be A Thing. Food is so much fun to write about. I can always think of Food Things for each letter, but I have to restrain myself and switch it up. You, however, were smart and chose food for your whole theme.
(Now why didn’t I think of that!?)

nance, this challenge has been around for 7 years now, but I’ve never tried it before. I’ve enjoyed your walk through the alphabet so clearly you’re in step with this idea. I’m going to be kind of meta with my use of food for a theme here. More figurative, less literal.

Let me know if you need any suggestions – I have a lot of good cookbooks you could “borrow” from :).

Cheri, thanks. I’m laughing here because I’ve been pulling cookbooks off my shelf, searching for words that’ll lead me to sayings about food. Guess we’ll all see together if I can do this somewhat abstract alphabetical-way of looking at food.

I am sooo looking forward to a month of flapdoodle, twaddle, and a little snark wrapped around a little food 😀
Glad you’ve joined the challenge. I hope you have lots of fun with it.
… and I’m so jealous of your own personalized banner! I’m just not that cool 😉

joanne, thanks for the encouragement. This alphabet idea is wonderful, but also daunting. 26 posts in one month?!! Whatever have I gotten myself into?
I made the button/banner thing at canvas.com which is online, free, and easy to use. Give it a whirl. You might be cooler than you think you are! 🙂

I agree that 26 posts in one month is really daunting … but it’s also fun and I hope you enjoy it 🙂
Thanks for the link. I’ll have to let my creative side out to play 😉

I am so not structured to do something like this. You go girl!

Thanks Kate. I tend to be relaxed about what I write here, so a structure like this one makes me squirm. HOWEVER, doing things differently is good for me. For one month. I hope.

I can not wait to find out what lovely food topic you choose for the Letter X!

You and me both, evilsquirrel13! But that’s a long time from now, so I’m sure some idea will come along. Right?

You’ll have plenty of time to consult with Wolfgang Puck and Rachael Ray to see if even they can come up with anything…

Ooooo! Terrific idea and I thank you for sharing. I desperately need something to get me writing again (and not just complaining). This sounds a lot like NaBloPoMo used to be and what a huge community.
I look forward to your posts. Interesting choice, food. If it would help, check out my slightly broken (gonna get around to fixing it someday) site of quotes. Food related are under Gourmandise. http://www.quotations.zazamataz.com/
At any rate, I know I will enjoy reading your posts. You always make me think about things a little differently.

Zazzy, will check out your link. Thanks. I bet it’s what I’m trying to do here. Didn’t know you’d done this, but not surprised. You are a clever girl.
Are you going to join in the A to Z Challenge? I’m hoping that you’re right about this having the best aspects of what NaBloPoMo once was. I’m amazed by how many people are signed up already. This is popular.

nrhatch, I agree. Considering how much we all talk about food, and how often we all use phrases that refer to food, I figure this topic will be… delicious. 🙂

Good luck! I look forward to stopping by when I can. It’s tricky to keep up with all the bloggers who do it, but it’s fun to see what they come up with.

Carrie, I know what you mean about trying to keep up with all the bloggers! I’m not sure how I’m going to write this much + read/comment elsewhere. Could be interesting to see if I implode during this challenge, or not. 😉

Haha, well, I hope you don’t implode. Better pace yourself.

Margaret, considering how much time + sitting in front of a computer it’s going to take to write all these posts, I may be the one gaining weight during the month of April!

Yes! This! I’ll be curious to hear how you feel at the end, should you reflect aloud upon that. 🙂

Deborah, I imagine I’ll have some sort of end-of-the-challenge review post in which I’ll chat about the realities of doing this! In theory I love this A to Z idea, but in practice…
