U Is For Upside-Down Cake, You Know

… is my modified version of a slang saying that means something is easy to do.  Not tricky at all.

I’ve added “upside-down” to this saying because I have nothing for the letter “U” within my theme of Food: Talking The Talk.

I guess you could say that finding something to post for the letter “U” … [wait for it]… has not been a piece of cake.

I’m not complaining, mind you, but I want to be clear that for me doing this challenge with a theme, as per the guideline suggestions, takes more effort than merely showing up to my blog each day– and writing something.

Screen Shot 2016-04-21 at 5.08.19 PMMy only regret is that I can’t visit + comment on more A To Z Challenge bloggers’ blogs.  Each day my stats page shows me that people from around the world have visited The Spectacled Bean, many of them leaving comments or liking what I wrote.

But instead of having the time to return all the visits, here I sit at my desk each morning writing, researching, writing, adding links, writing, editing, writing, adding images, writing.

Just saying.  No disrespect intended.

  3. Udderly fascinating! (Okay, that’s a long stretch.) I think your theme is a lot more fun than my kind of random thing. I see where it’s a lot of work but at least it’s interesting!

    • Zazamataz, thank you so much for saying this. I’ve enjoyed learning about all these phrases, so telling my readers about them has been rewarding. I like your random approach, btw. It seems less like work to me, which right about now has an appeal. 🙂

  4. I knew this year was going to be particularly challenging because I have been juggling so many other things in my life. The number of unread blog posts is evidence of that distraction.
    The A to Z is so much fun though. I love the challenge, the interaction, meeting new bloggers. I guess that’s why I’m lured back every spring 🙂

    • joanne, now that I’ve experienced this challenge I’m glad that I’m doing it. Perhaps this post is a reminder to myself that: IF one started earlier in the year to prepare for this challenge, THEN one would be less put upon during the month of April. 😉

  6. Beginning an A-Z Challenge is easier than finishing out all the pesky letters at the end of the alphabet:

    U~V~W~X~Y~Z.

    Maybe those letters should be lumped together as “unwieldy.”

    • YES! Great idea, nrhatch. It’s getting to be pretty outside while at the same time the letters are getting to be difficult. Pesky is the right word to describe this situation.

  7. I’m in the same boat. I have a thing where I must return comments with comments, but once that is done and I check the blogs for the co-host I’m helping and write the next day’s blog–I’m toast. I know it’s only one more week, but I’m dragging here. Come on, May!

  9. But your hard work is paying off! Even if you ironically chose what is considered to be a difficult cake to illustrate the phrase, which makes me love the choice more…wait, what was I saying?

    OH yes, I was the hit of the lunch table with my parents when I introduced them to “minced oath.”

    • Allie P, I’m amazed, too. And just think, soon I’ll be through “Z” with only one more thing to do. The guidelines suggest that you write a “reflections” post as a bookend to your “theme reveal” post. I can do that, piece of cake. 😉

    • Alice, thank you for realizing that fact! I enjoyed doing this challenge, but the quiet little secret about it is that… it’s a lot like work… or homework. It just doesn’t happen without planning and effort. Still glad I did it, though.

    Yes, SAME. I said as much in my reflection post. Still, it’s fun visiting the blogs I get to visit, so I guess that counts for something as well.

    • Akilah, you have the right attitude about this issue. I wanted to do more socializing away from my blog, but it didn’t happen that way. Oh well, those who I met were great, so there’s that bit of goodness.
