  1. Thank you – I am so grateful for the folks in my blog feed for these well written reminders to keep moving forward. I so wanted to crawl under my bed and call it a done deal. I am somewhat taken aback that hate ended up ruling the day.

    • Dana, I am, too. I live in a conservative part of the country so I see this kind of hate around the edges of my life, but I thought surely good would win out in the end when the whole country voted. Sadly, it didn’t.

    • nance, I hadn’t thought of that cliche. It is unfortunately perfect. I’m disappointed, but I’m also empowered to get loud and nasty and smart about things. This must never happen again.

    • Margaret, I agree. I live in an [ungodly] conservative part of the country, so I’m somewhat braced for this. However, I want to apologize to the world and tell them how sorry I am about… The Donald.

  7. Interesting times ahead. One of our newspapers here had a cartoon a couple of days ago showing the Statue of Liberty with a voting paper, the candidates as follows: He’s not Clinton, or She’s not Trump. We obviously don’t hear the ins and outs of it as you do, of course, but I wonder if this was accurate, Trump was voted in because he’s not Clinton – otherwise, how could anyone vote for someone who speaks about other people in the way Trump does? All very perplexing from this side of the pond. Just waiting for Clinton to speak now. She’s supposed to appear at 14.30 our time. Hope she makes it before I have to do the school run. I want to hear what she says. Sending love.

    • Polly, the cartoon’s message is accurate. People voted against someone this time, instead of for someone. That’s a new way of thinking about presidential candidates which I find abhorrent. I prefer to be for things.

      As for The Donald himself, his way of calling out everyone/thing without regard to a moral code appeals to Americans who don’t like to think. They see him as strong, emotional, not restrained by sneaky things like facts + logic.

      Didn’t know about HRC’s upcoming speech. Thanks for info.

  8. I’m left thinking about how a system ruled by an oligarch plutocracy can expect to function properly when the wildcard is literally the American voters. I didn’t vote for Trump or Clinton, so will keep my opinion silent, however I think the next four years will determine who gets to say “I told you” to the other. Is it 2020 yet?

  9. I would so very much like to be proven wrong in this instance. Sadly, I think I’ll just be able to say “I told you so.” There really are still a lot of good people out there and we just have to stick together and trust in God. Things happen for a reason is one of my favorite sayings and I’m sticking to it. Still, I am so embarrassed and sad.

    • Janet, you make excellent points. This could work out for the best… somehow… yet to be revealed. But in this moment what I’ve taken away from this election is that half of the people in this country don’t know sh!t from shinola. 0.o

  11. I had hoped sanity would prevail. I was wrong. So very, very wrong.

    I’m trying to keep a stiff upper lip on this one, but it’s pretty hard – and I’m not even American. The bullies of the world have been validated and moving forward is going to be damn hard – not just for the US, but for everyone.

    • nancy, he may say that but will it matter? He’d only fill their spots with awful old cronies or hateful young wannabes. Although maybe he’ll be impeached and then we’ll be able to say: “You’re fired.” Now that I’d like.

  13. This whole thing is so damned ugly, and I can’t even handle it. I’ve never cried at the results of an election before, even Bush. This made me cry. That I have friends, smart, caring women, that voted for him makes me wonder what it could be that they saw in him. I don’t want to know enough to open the conversation, which I suppose I should. Sigh.

    • J, I know how you feel. Trump is amoral & the wrong person for the job, yet I know people who voted for him. I’ve lost respect for these people and will never entirely trust them again. In many ways this election is a litmus test for morality, confirming my suspicions about many people.

  14. You know I don’t talk politics much. I really didn’t believe that this would happen. When I started checking the results last night, I was truly shocked that so many people voted for him. But I still thought it would turn around..

    It’s not all about one man. In the same way that Obama was not able to fulfill all his goals, Trump will not be able to derail the whole country. In theory. But it scares me. Congress is supposed to help balance things but with everything in Republican control how many good things will get overturned? How many bad things are going to get pushed through?

    Maybe we worry for nothing. Nothing ever really changes in Washington after all.

    • Zazzy, I think there was such a positive vibe to Hillary’s campaign that it makes Trump’s hateful rhetoric sound even more extreme. Living in a conservative place I’m somewhat used to batshit crazy wing nuts whining & voting against their own best interests. However, I worry that during the next 4 years, regardless of what happens in Washington, there’ll be more blatant displays of bigotry, racism, sexism around here. The haters have their leader now & nothing good can come from this.

  16. Even the holiday chaos and madness around the malls/parking lots will seem tame compared to the last few weeks.
    I’m still not turning on news or traveling through blogs much until people get distracted by other things.
    What ever happened to being polite and agreeing to disagree and still be friends. Sigh.

    • philmouse, you said it! I wonder if there will be much holiday chaos and madness this year OR if everyone is going to go into survival, cost-saving mode right now? To be safe.

      I think that the “agreeing to disagree” idea went out the window this election right about the time the “slow and steady wins the race” idea imploded.

      Good manners and hard work? Those ideas are for suckers. 😦
