Share Your World | Summertime, With A Hint Of Autumn

• How do you like to spend a rainy day?

Oddly enough off the top of my head I don’t have a specific answer for this question.  I just get on with things regardless of the rain, I guess.  Could I take a rain check and get back with you? 😁

• List at least five favorite treats. (They do not have to be sugary).

  1. Zagnut Candy Bar, when I can find one
  2. Fritos Corn Chips, the original ones, please
  3. Lemon Meringue Pie, from a local speciality grocery store
  4. Little Powdered Sugar Donuts, any brand
  5. Fried Green Bean Appetizer, with spicy dipping sauce

• Where’s your favorite place to take out-of-town guests?

If they aren’t insanely uptight people, I like to take out-of-town guests to eat at a unique Tex-Mex restaurant that’s in a haunted former speakeasy, and is known for its pork chops.

[If the out-of-town guests are insanely uptight people then I don’t have to worry about where to take them because they’ll tell me where they want to go.]

• You are trapped in an elevator, who would you want to be trapped with?

Michelle Obama

Once a week Cee asks the questions on her blog, and I answer them here on my blog.  This post is part of Cee’s Share Your World Weekly Writing Challenge.

  1. Ally, I would love to sit down & have a conversation with Michelle Obama. Such grace & wisdom, I can only imagine what she & Barack are thinking these days!

  2. Uncanny, that quiz. I felt like my answers were all over the place and a few were Not Quite Exactly Me, but the result? Perfect: Classic/Traditional–Comfortable yet refined. The examples looked a lot like stuff already in my house! The Pottery Barn Oracle…it’s real.

I’m a lemon pie lover, but I peel off the meringue. Other treats: Hershey with almonds, raw oysters, Haagen-Dazs coffee ice cream, fried calamari. Hard to improve on your Elevator Partner, but I think I’d choose Ken Burns.

    • nance, I had the same feeling as I took the quiz. Nothing was quite me, but the results are definitely me. All hail the wisdom that is Pottery Barn!

I was going to put fried oysters as one of my treats, but it’s been years since I had any so seemed like a stretch. You’re right about Haagen-Dazs coffee ice cream. It’s delicious.

It would be interesting to talk with Ken Burns, one on one. I bet he knows many fascinating facts about everything! Good choice.

    • Carrie, she’s the coolest, isn’t she? And so smart, I’d just sit there and listen to her every word, thinking that for once when something stupid happens to me, it turns out to be a good thing.

    • Janis, Pottery Barn has everything in there anymore. The quiz is fun, my results made me smile, and if PB thinks I’m global, then so be it. The Tex-Mex place is a hoot, kind of a joint, but the food is good/basic and the servers are pleasant. Plus, the drinks are priced to sell. 🙂

  3. Mmmmmm! Zagnut bars are the best! But they are difficult to find. Popcorn is my go to snack. I eat it nearly every day.
Surprise, surprise. I got Coastal on the Pottery Barn test. It is “both a mood and look-It has a breezy, laid-back vibe.” Yep!
I’d choose my sister to be stuck in an elevator with. We can talk for hours! LOL!
I like spending rainy days either going to a movie, or reading a book.
    Cool questions! Thanks for sharing!

    • Beth, our airport has a candy shoppe in it that sells Zagnuts. That’s about the only place I know of that sells them. I can see you as Pottery Barn Coastal. Fun quiz, huh? Yep, I imagine you and your sister wouldn’t even notice how long you were stuck in the elevator. Good choice. Thanks for answering along with Cee’s questions.

  4. Love lemon meringue pie. My son used to work at Pottery Barn and would get discounts and bring home catalogs…who can afford that stuff? Yes, Michelle but also perhaps Robert Redford or Bon Jovi 🙂 we don’t necessarily have to talk, do we? LOL

  5. I don’t think I have a style anymore, not after putting to bed the “all things homespun and country” look, but I’ll have to take the quiz later and find out.
Is this odd…I have never known just what makes up a Zagnut bar? Heard the name, but no idea what it is. I don’t think we have them around here.

    • Deb, I went through a phase where I had no idea what I liked anymore. I’d been fond of traditional, but got tired of how stuffy it is. While I’m not sure that Global is exactly how I interpret what I see around here, it’ll do until I figure out something more accurate. 🤔

A Zagnut Bar is best explained by the following old commercial…

  6. When we visit, we’ll go to the haunted former speakeasy known for its pork chops . . . but I’m not eating pork chops. 😀

I thought your quiz results were spot on: “a cool, spirited sensibility” with an “eclectic, bold, and well-worn” decorating style.

You can order BIG boxes of Zagnut on line . . .

    • nancy, they have vegetarian items on the menu, so you’ll be fine. It’s a goofy local place, but I do think it’s fun to go there and look for the ghost.

Big boxes of Zagnuts, you say? Considering I don’t have much of a sweet tooth, that might be a lifetime supply for me! Still…

      • I saw boxes with 18 – 24 Zagnut bars. Eat 1-2 bars a month and before you can say “haunted former speakeasy” . . . it’ll be time to shop for more.

BTW: My spell check keeps changing Zagnut to Magnet ~> that’s nutty! Whoever heard of a Magnet Bar . . . oh, wait, that’s Hooter’s!

        • nancy, I eat about one Zagnut every year and that’s about all I can take considering how sweet they are. Like I said, a box could be a lifetime supply for me.

Your spell check is a pushy little number. My goodness gracious, so presumptuous.

  7. Also, I just took the Pottery Barn quiz, and I got “coastal” – this is awesome. I actually just picked up a cool, old-timey fan (and by “picked up”, I mean I literally picked it up out of someone’s garbage while on a walk with Choppy and carried it home). Having procured this bit of awesomeness, I decided to redo my office in a beach style.

And here’s a pic that is sort of like the fan (https://www.etsy.com/listing/247998383/antique-emerson-junior-electric-fan-in). Seriously, I was not going to leave that sitting in the garbage.

  8. I too was hoping that you had a good recipe for Fried Green Bean Appetizer. And good call on choosing Michelle Obama to be stuck in an elevator with!

    • Akilah, you mean this Pottery Barn quiz is not 100% accurate? I’m shocked, I tell you– SHOCKED! I got Global. The copy about it sounded like me, but as for the actual objects that are part of global design, not quite so much. Oh well…

  9. Rain check! Clever.

Michelle Obama. Interesting choice. Good conversation, and she can be punny like you — she’ll be hoisting you up to the opening in the top telling you to “go high.”

  10. I agree on the weather bit. I’ll be outside as little as possible until it’s cool. Weeding the garden and spending a day at the state fair will be enough heat for me!
Thanks for the quiz. I got romantic, which I hadn’t expected, considering I’m not romantic. I cannot deny my affection for as they said, “rumpled fabrics and matte metals.”
I recently ate Fritos for the first time in decades, and I must say, they taste like childhood 🙂 I bought one of those bags of bags of chips for the kids to snack on, and with my first crunch, announced, “Leave me the Fritos!”

    • joey, this kind of hot muggy weather is not for me. I need cool breezes and shady spots if I am to survive summer outside.

You’re the first person to get Romantic. I understand what you mean about PB’s name for a style not truly reflecting who you are. I’m not Global, but what they say I like, I like. So, whatever.

Fritos are childhood. I love that line. You’re so right and that’s why I like them, although I’d never thought of it until you said it. Great observation.

  11. Fried green bean appetizer–I must know more! I love green beans. I agree about Michelle Obama and never think too much about rainy days. I live in Washington State! We just carry on with our lives. 🙂

    • Margaret, look for the fried green bean appetizer on menus. They’re popular around here, but then anything fried is popular around here so maybe it’s regional. Rainy days don’t affect me much either. Occasionally I get sad on them, but overall I keep on, keeping on.
