In Which Ms. Bean Confirms She Is Who She Is: A Dreamer

I took the fast & fun interactive What’s Your COLOR ID Quiz on the Sherwin-Williams website.  Click HERE to go take it for yourself.

My quiz results told me I am a Dreamer.  A Dreamer is defined thusly:

I was further told that as a Dreamer I do the following:

Here is a screen shot of a few of the Sherwin-Williams colors that a Dreamer likes to see in her home.

Here is a photo of the wall in this particular Dreamer’s home office [or study if that’s what you want to call this room] where she is currently sitting.  This wall is painted SW 7666 Fleur de Sel, one of the colors shown in the image above.

It’s not often that I take an online quiz and end up with results that I agree with 100%.  In fact some of my previous posts [here & here] have been less than kind when discussing my quiz results, but for whatever reason, this time the quiz results made sense to me.

And with that I’ll end this pleasant post about knowing who I am by wishing you, my gentle readers, a Happy Weekend.  May it be colorful in a way that pleases you and filled with sweet dreams ’til sunbeams find you.

  1. I LOVE that song by the Mamas and Papas. One of my long time favourites!! Oh Mama Cass, your voice was magic 💕

… and I like that colour Fleur de Sel. I’m looking for a new colour for our bedroom. hmmm – I wonder if this would fly with Gilles?

  2. Apparently I’m a Naturalist. “You embrace the outdoors and want to help everything around you thrive. You find yourself most at peace when surrounded by nature, walking along a rugged trail or just sitting in the sun.” Kinda have to agree! Weirdly correct. Like you I am skeptical of online quizzes but this one rings true.

  3. Apparently I’m a naturalist, which is true, but their idea of my colours are completely wrong as I’m also a creative and I love extremes: gentle but pretty pastels especially lilacs and sky blues (people don’t realise that about me and are often appalled!) and very bright, in yer face, almost dayglo colours, especially orange!

    Liked by 3 people

    • Val, you make an excellent point about how all these suggested color palettes lack any extreme colors, both pastel or dayglo. I wonder if the premise is that these are the background colors for your home and you accessorize with the extreme ones? 🤷‍♀️

    • Same. I’m a naturalist on this quiz, and find the gray colors aren’t ‘up’ enough for my energy. My walls are tints of blues and greens. I do need outdoor time, and I do tend plants.
Looking overall at the palettes, I see trend. I’d be curious to see what Naturalists’ palettes look like in a few years 🙂

      • joey, I’ve been amazed by how many of my readers are Naturalists. If it means something I dunno what it is. You make a good point about how these palettes will change as the interior design world shifts to different ‘must-have’ colors.

  4. [I Am] A Minimalist – You enjoy what life has to offer and appreciate beauty in all things. You look to your home as a place to decompress and truly be you. Uncluttered, undisturbed. This is you. This is your Color ID. Not the dead on fit your result was, but pretty darn close – decompress and unclutter are good. My colors included a gray that is very close to our forever best color “Useful Gray.” I love our colors and our Home as it.

  5. Apparently, I’m a creative which probably explains why I didn’t like any of the choice on some frames (like the coffee tables…). It’s an interesting game, but I didn’t think there was a broad range of colors when you look at all the selections together, they all sort of looked like variations on the same. Where is the magnificent red! I want red!

  6. Great quiz…haven’t been enticed with taking one for quite awhile. The process itself was pleasant and colorful (hmmm subliminal marketing?)
Anyway, I came out a creative and I agree because it’s the first time I wasn’t labeled ‘eclectic’. Hate that generic term!!!!
    HA!
As for the colors, a great starting point to where I can also pick and choose varients within the other categories.
Just wish we had a place to paint our own spaces and make them our own!!! But hey, that’s really just a 1st world whine…Our little rental shelters us & for that I am thankful!
ps- thanks for the worm in my ear! 😉

    • laura, I think you’re right that this is definitely subliminal marketing. Write some flattering words, then add some paint colors & *voilà* a customer is born. However in my case the words seemed to fit, and the walls are already one of *my* colors.

If you’re in a rental and like the wall colors, then this quiz is merely a theoretical exercise in what if. Thanks for taking it and playing along. Enjoy your complimentary ear worm.

  7. LOL – well, I’m glad it worked out for you. I’m laughing at my result. I’m a Minimalist…! PS – I can see you being a dreamer though, I shall take the test again someday and see what I get the next time.

    • Shelley, I willingly admit that it’s possible that this quiz is not always accurate. But I liked my results so here they be, the basis of a blog post. Also I’m amazed that one of the suggested colors is on the wall of this room. 🤔

      Liked by 1 person

      • I would do the same thing. In fact, I may just post about why I don’t think the results are accurate. I wanted to stop the quiz the moment the walls on the screen turned the exact color of my office walls. I was sure that’s what I’d end up with. And perplexed as to why or maybe wondering if I should repaint? 😉

        • I have to wonder who dreams up these online quizzes. Is there any scientific basis to the questions & answers? I worked in marketing at one point and from that experience I doubt that there’s much rhyme and reason to this quiz. But I still liked it. Call me a Dreamer. 😊

          Liked by 1 person

          • LOL – I agree – I had my family take it and the Mr and I got the same thing. My two daughters were different from each other and us. And they liked their results. We think the determining factor was which coffee table was chosen – since Mr & I chose the same one, and we’re sure the kiddos chose different ones than we did. Has the world of colors come down to the coffee table?! LOL? Dreaming is a wonderful thing – keep on dreaming!

            Liked by 1 person

            • The choice of coffee tables was a weird part of the quiz. I didn’t like any of them, but picked the one closest to what I might like. I’m intrigued by the idea that the choice of coffee tables might be the determining variable as to who you are. You may have found the key to the world of colors! 🤔

  8. I love all those colors and could easily live with those around – wait. I do. Hmmm. Now I’ll have to take the quiz although I normally don’t. Yep, Friday and it’s hot (although below 100F) so that quiz can be a hot weather time filler. Great idea and great song. Have a great weekend

  9. I agree with the finding of dreamer for you. You’ve always had a “calm and optimistic spirit” going through life. I don’t usually take quizzes, but took this one. I’m a nurturer according to the results. I guess I agree, since my current life is consumed with nurturing the grands. I just bought a CD of the best of The Mamas and Papas. Love it!!

    • Beth, ah ha! Another person who agrees with their quiz results. I’m sure you’re a Nurturer, that’s how I think of you. Now as for whether you like your particular colors, that’s a whole different thing. Fascinating how this quiz plays out, isn’t it?

      Liked by 1 person

  10. I’m a dreamer too but it’s not as spot on for me. I love blues and greens and there wasn’t a sagey green there. I like my neutrals a tad on the creamy warm side which is out of vogue right now. Guess this is not the time to redo the house! Thanks for the fun exercise.

  11. I started the quiz but abandoned it at the second question because I didn’t like any of the choices. And I thought none of the couches looked like me either.

So . . . I’m guessing that my Color ID is NOT Sherwin Williams. 🙄

  12. Yes, I can see that dreamer description fitting you well. I don’t normally do quizzes, but you enticed into this one – which totally did NOT get me at all. It says I’m a Trendsetter who dresses to impress. Ha! I dress like a slob and never redecorate. I did like some of the colors, though, but they were probably random.

    Liked by 1 person

    • Eileen, you mean this quiz isn’t based on science and it isn’t totally accurate all the time?!! Color me shocked. Funny how the description of you is totally off, but the colors are to your liking. Random, sure. But a fun waste of time and a good conversation starter from what I can tell. Thanks for playing along.

      • Oh, it was fun – and funny! I got to thinking that it didn’t matter so much which sofa or type of music you picked. Each answer had a different color button and the outcome was at least partly, if not mostly based on that.

I promise I would never paint any room in my house pink – ever. But two of my colors were pink. Is pink trendy? I’d be the last person to know!!

  13. Well shoot, I got Minimalist, and I was trying so hard for Naturalist with a touch of Free Spirit tossed in. As nrhatch noted, perhaps SW is not for me! I have little choice in the matter though unless I can convince the landlord to repaint. It’s funny though because the walls are a soft blue-gray and the things I chose to fit this home when I moved in really do reflect a combo of all three of those palettes.
Down side Ally Bean, now I want to re-decorate and re-paint 😉

    • Deb, another Minimalist. Happy to know you. I wanted to get Free Spirit, too. It’s how I describe myself in my blog tagline so it seemed sensible to me. I’m glad that your rental has walls in a color that makes you happy and works with your stuff. Sometimes it all comes together in the most unexpected ways.

    • Joni, I found my quiz results to be accurate, at least in the description of my personality. As for the particular colors, they’re nice enough– just not what’s on the walls in the rest of the house. And you know what? That’s ok.

  15. I tested out as a Minimalist, but from what I’m reading, I could be any of the others, too. But I liked the Minimalist palette overall. I prefer to bring in colour with the things in the room rather than the wall colours.

…and those coffee tables! Yikes. 😉

  16. Well, I took the test and it said I was a Naturalist who likes walks in the forest, blah, blah, blah. Nope! So I took the test again and answered a couple questions differently (the way I really wanted to – particularly the one about the pet. Since we have a dog I felt compelled to answer that I wanted one but my real answer was no time for a pet). On the second try I got “You are a Creative” which I feel matches much better. Goes to show your first instincts really are the right ones because when I answered with my heart, the truth was revealed. Note – I would have settled for Dreamer as well 🙂

    • Janet, that is incredibly interesting about how you changed a few answer to better reflect who you are and you found yourself. Isn’t that encouraging! I can believe you are a Creative, btw. Makes sense to me.

  17. Mama Cass had a tremendous voice.

That quiz told me I’m a Naturalist, probably because I had to pick a bunch of crap I wouldn’t have in my house. Really, after the couch, I didn’t like anything. Shows what they know…

  18. Hmmmmm…that was really interesting. Maybe I’ll go take that test. We just had the interior of our house painted a year ago….we lived with primer white for about 25 years because my husband and I can’t agree on anything. Finally he let me choose…what a relief and also a responsibility! I like the way it turned out…but I wonder what my colors REALLY are…

    • dawn, in the 20 years we’ve been here we’ve had more colors on our walls than I can remember. Agreement can be tricky plus trends change, we change. My quiz results nailed my personality and I like many of the suggested colors, but not all of them. If nothing else the quiz is fun and the results are a starting point.

  19. I couldn’t resist so I gave it a go. I am a Nurturer. The description does sort of fit me (I do love to make family and friends feel at home when they visit). I’m not too sure about the color palette. Although I did paint the interior of the house in colors similar to those in your palette, I am drawn to bright, bright colors and some pastels (a lot like Val, I see).

    Liked by 2 people

    • Robin, you’re the third Nurturer so far. I looked at those colors and like them sort of. We have one of them, Alabaster white, below the chair rail in our dining room. In reality the interior of our house is painted in more khaki gold & warm grays than my proscribed color palette. I’m glad you decided to take the quiz. It’s a fun goof.

  20. That was a fun quiz to take. Very interactive… but very wrong (at least in my case). I am definitely NOT a Trendsetter. Maybe it says that because I tend to like contemporary furniture and adore succulents. But, if people look to me for the latest trends, they will be sorely disappointed. I love your colors, though.

    Liked by 1 person

    • Janis, good analysis of why the quiz told you what it told you. I bet you’re right that contemporary furniture + succulents = modern aka Trendsetter. Thanks for taking the quiz. If nothing else it’s interesting to see what choices it offered and what interior wall colors are the latest and greatest.

  21. I’ll take the quiz when I return to blog land for reals. But in the meantime, I’m not surprised by your results. Also, wondering if you’d come paint my writing room. (Thinking maybe the quiz might reveal that I’m not very DIY, at the very least.)

  22. Thanks for sharing the quiz – I love these sorts of things – and in this case, I too think my results were pretty well spot on – “naturalist” – will I actually follow through and take their advice? Well, when we learned that the coffee table was too heavy and scratched the floor, I threw a rug over it. Does that answer the question?

    Liked by 1 person

    • Maggie, I did the same thing after the coffee table scratched the floor. I’m sure the coffee table didn’t mean to scratch the floor, poor thing. Accidents happen, so why make a big deal of it? I’ve got dreams to dream, no time to repair the floor. 😉

    • Erica/Erika, I’ve been humming this tune all weekend. As for the quiz, it’s fun and while not all the colors are ones I’d pick, I like the idea of who I am. Maybe that’s what the quiz does best– help you define you.

On an unrelated note, thank you for referring Retirementally Challenged to my blog!!

  25. I knew I wasn’t going to be a dreamer, because “calm” was there. Haha! I’m a naturalist, and I suppose the description is accurate enough, but the colors didn’t do it for me. My bedroom is roughly Secret Cove, and I feel it’s the color in my home that best represents me. Ours is called Blue Vault, which makes me giggle a little, not far off the name. Cheerful colors. I like cheerful colors. Tints. I live for tints. I tend to choose more traditional furniture pieces than are shown in the quiz as well — I am NOT on trend 😉

    • joey, even though we have one of the colors on *my* color palette, our house isn’t painted in those colors. We have more of a golden khaki/warm gray/creamy white palette going on here– with splashes of spirited colors like burgundy or denim blue or salmon-y orange. I like cheerful, but I also like neutral walls. Even though I don’t have the colors going on, I am a Dreamer. The description fits me.

  26. I haven’t taken an internet quiz for years, but I took this one, and laughed when it came up with “naturalist” for me. That’s certainly on target. I wonder what would have happened if I’d been able to choose the sofa, plant, and etc. that I really like? Most of their options were things I’d never live with. That’s one of the problems with a forced-choice quiz. Still, it was fun, and a reminder that my choices usually please me more than the choices others make for me!

    Liked by 1 person

    • shoreacres, another Naturalist! That seems to be the most popular personality type among my readers. It’s a fun one, but I agree with you that if the quiz offered some better options [defined as things I really like] then we all might be classified into different groups. Good point about not letting other people make your choices for you– although I don’t think that’s what SW wants us to learn from this quiz. 🤔

  27. Interestingly, I would have thought I’d get Dreamer, but the further I went down the list, I found myself saying “never” just one time, and “mostly that’s me” more and more and so I was Creative and my colors were bold. I’ll really need to step up my game as this house is done in light colors throughout. I took the quizzes first on the older posts – I don’t remember how I did on the first one and I did bad at the emojis but for some reason, it didn’t display the emoji in Opera browser – I am not great at emojis anyway but I don’t use a smartphone and I really only use the smiley face on Facebook. Very occasionally a SMH emoji. I remember when we first discovered that a combo of : and ) would equal a smiley face or the reverse for a frownie face. Utter joy as there were no icons in those days.

    • linda, you are a Creative, eh? Someone else in the comments got that, too. Bold colors can be great– or overwhelming depending on your pov. You make me smile with your memory of the simplistic days back when we made emojis with a few bits of punctuation. I remember I had a long list of them printed out so that I’d know the right thing to say at the end of my emails.

      Liked by 1 person

      • Creative – yup, that’s me Ally and all bold colors – well that’s a wee bit different. My house is very small so bold would overwhelm the rooms and the lighting in this house is not really good either, so putting dark colors, especially in the kitchen where I spend most of my time, would make it way too dark. I had fun with the quizzes and after I shut down (rather abruptly as a storm was brewing and rumbling about and there was a terrific thunderclap so I shut down and unplugged the computer), I remembered the other quiz was for “Grittiness” … I had scored a 2.70 and was deemed to be 20% grittier than most Americans, so am sharing that … not as great of a percentage as yourself though. We thought we were very cool with our emoticons back in those days and likely overused those smiley faces.
