I Am Colorful, I Am Manifesting Potatoes, I Am Positive

Hello again, my gentle readers and kind lurkers!

This image represents the predominant colors found in my IG account photos during 2021. I used YEAROFCOLOUR.COM, an app, to create it.

After the strangest warmest Christmas Day on record [69ºF] and the oddest gloomiest New Year’s Day I can remember [rained all day], we here in Chez Bean are ready to get back to doing normal things this week.

Well, normal as it is now defined. That is, we are fully vaccinated, wearing masks when out & about in public, keeping away from people in general– and doing our best to not spread a deadly virus.

You know which one it is.

This is what @MAGICKMOODS, found on IG, says I am currently doing. Who knows, maybe blog posts are really just potatoes… and I’m making a hash of it here?

To wit, Z-D is back to work on a hybrid schedule of 2 days downtown in his office/3 days at home in his upstairs bedroom office.  He likes the idea so it’s all good*.

This will be happening while I’m back to writing my usual flapdoodle & twaddle.  I never know how much longer I’m going to be writing this blog, but muse is with me and I’m feeling groovy so I shall keep going.

Plus I took a fast online test, a task as they call it, that measures verbal creativity.  The average score was 78 but mine was 93.  Not to brag but as the consummate B+ college student who was never quite smart enough to earn an A, I’m chuffed by this number.  Ha!

While I’m not known for being a relentlessly upbeat Pollyanna, these particular words from WORDSTACKS, a game on my phone, resonated with me. So I share them here.

And with that I’ll end this post by asking: what are you manifesting today?

* Zen-Den can be a bit of an absent-minded professor. He went into work yesterday, on 1 of his 2 days in the office, but came home early. Few people were around, he said, but he got a lot done. On further reflection, and a quick check of the company’s 2022 scheduled holidays, he realized he had the day off.  Uh huh 🙄

  1. I like the positive words that the game provided you. It’s still quiet in the office though I have heard a few more people around, but still a lot of folks missing.

  2. Things are getting weird here to. Without a mandate almost everyone is masking up. Considering the protests from last year’s mandates, I’m really surprised. I am fortunate to be retired. Other than having workmen in my house every day, I’m not around people.

  3. Too hilarious about your Zen-Den’s full & fruitful day at work! HA!
I’m glad you’re feeling groovy – me too. So I guess we’re both good to go on our blogs for the time being, eh?
    🙂
To answer your clever-end-of-blog-post question: I am manifesting my inner goat (reference to my huge music project inspired by goats years ago).
They do enjoy a good potato or two as a treat along with their normal feed!

    • Laura, Z-D can be a goof sometimes. No harm in what he did, but funny to think about. I’m glad you’re feeling groovy about blogging, too. We’ll be great this year, won’t we?

I love that your goat music project is manifesting and that it’s not small potatoes. 😉

  4. Our holidays are continuing because I have, thus far, refused to give up my morning croissant with coffee. As a result, the 12 Days of Christmas/Croissants has morphed into something much larger. Let’s just hope I don’t follow suit. Ho-Ho-Ho.

    Congrats on your score!

    Liked by 4 people

    • Nancy, Christmas traditionally ends on the Feast of Epiphany [Jan 6th] which is the twelfth day of Christmas. Therefore you’re still observing Christmas by continuing to eat croissants until then. What happens after that is anyone’s guess. 🥐

  5. I suppose what’s being manifested here is cheerful normalcy. Christmas was a gorgeous day, New Year’s turned cold, and the biggest change in my life’s the need for long underwear at work — at least, for a few days. Well, there is that need to increase the peanut allotment for the squirrels. They can grow demanding if I don’t produce as they like!

    Liked by 4 people

    • Linda, yes, yes! I like your term “cheerful normalcy” because who doesn’t want that? [Only curmudgeons and malcontents I suppose.]

You need long underwear? I’ll admit that I don’t have any anymore. It’s gotten so warm in the winter around here that I don’t need it. By all means keep the peanuts flowing, don’t want to disappoint your squirrel-y friends.

      • Ah, yes — but are you spending your days out on the docks, with a strong east wind off the bay and temperatures in the upper 30s? The weather on the Texas coast is, shall we say, variable.

        Liked by 1 person

        • I haven’t been on a dock in years! So no, unlike you I don’t spend my days near water with a wicked wind coming off it. However, IF I did I’d want long underwear– and lots of it. In pretty styles and colors, of course.

  6. Spouse took off a couple weeks at Christmas. Which I would have been thrilled with a few years ago, when Baby D was younger and on school vacation. But now that the kid is more independent? There may have been a bitter comment such as, “Oh, NOW, now that he’s easier, NOW you’re taking time off during the Christmas break.”

On the plus side, he did take over all the cooking.

  7. I can’t figure out what manifesting potatoes means!?! I think you manifest a great sense of humor and thoughtful writing and caring feelings…but potatoes? Huh?
My main problem is deciding what to manifest now that I am retired! I do waste an awful lot of time and I want to fix that in 2022! But I haven’t decided how yet! 🙂

    • Ellen D, I don’t really get the manifesting potatoes idea either, but must everything make sense? I like the @magickmoods IG account because it’s lighthearted and spontaneous, so I figured I’d go with what it told me.

Maybe you aren’t wasting time, but instead you’re manifesting space in your life so that you can decide at your leisure what to do next. See, see, I can spin it positive! 😉

  8. Hmmm, manifesting potatoes? Sounds like someone is predicting a famine? Yes, let’s add that to all the other issues we face right now. I will admit to manifesting a sense of spring readiness, even though winter just started.

    Liked by 4 people

    • Deb, you could be onto something with your analysis of the reasoning behind why I was told that I was manifesting potatoes. If nothing else I got a laugh out of what the account thinks is magic. 😵‍💫

With our overly warm December temps we’re kind of having Spring right now, which is… odd. Like you, I could be ready for it.

  9. My husband announced Monday morning that he had the day off as a holiday, but then proceeded to receive countless calls and Microsoft Team meetings, so was it really a holiday? I suspect this whole work from home phenomenon is just a way to turn everyday into a work day.

    Liked by 4 people

    • Bijoux, there’s something to what you’re thinking. I like that Z-D works from home most days of the week because it’s safer for all concerned, BUT people/problems/projects do seem to find him here all. the. time. 🤷‍♀️

  10. Welcome back Ms Bean! I hope that your holidays were relaxing and enjoyable.

That’s an interesting little creativity test. I scored my best (91.29) when most of my words were not nouns – failure to read the directions completely is rewarded? When I re-tried with nouns, my scores went down into the B+ range. I played around, seeking interesting nouns but then I tended to choose nouns that were related to each other. I never managed to beat my non-noun score. I am not as creative, apparently, when I follow directions.

We have also had unusually warm weather – I think it was around 70 on Christmas day, plus or minus. We did finally get some cold for the New Year and there remains some snow/ice on my north side deck. Our friend Margaret has had unusually cold weather and a bunch of snow. Mother Nature likes to keep us on our toes.

    Liked by 4 people

    • Zazzy, it’s hilarious and wonderful that by NOT following the directions you were deemed more creative than when you followed the directions. There’s a lesson in your experience, oh yes there is! 😄

No snow here but the temps are dropping today with a prediction that by Thursday we’ll have snow. I’ve seen Margaret’s photos on IG and *wowsa* they have snow. Mother Nature is up to something, that’s for sure.

  11. Happy New Year Ms. Bean. I think I may have to introduce you to my friend McSpud – it seems you may have something in common. Some of your manifesting skills seem to have rubbed off on me as well – the other day I manifested a heart-shaped potato. I’m keeping it out on the kitchen table where it makes me smile every time I pass it. My goal for this year is to manifest tired cheek muscles from smiling so much. Sound like a worthy endeavor?

    Liked by 4 people

    • Deborah, I’d like to have a potato that makes me smile. You inspire me with your ability to manifest a heart-shaped potato. I should be so clever/lucky to do the same. 😊

I like what you want to manifest in 2022. It’s a worthy goal and one that, Covid willing, can happen. *fingers crossed*

  13. Happiest of New Years, Ally Bean! Isn’t it interesting that some of us never know how long we’ll keep blogging? Others are convinced they will blog for the rest of their lives, a resolution that makes me raise my eyebrows and want to offer a toast that they succeed. I never know–month to month–when the typing fingers will stop making blogging hash. *grin*

    • Kathy, good point. You’re right about how some people know for sure they’ll blog forever while other people, like us, stumble along one month at a time, hashing it out. Never thought about that before. Don’t know what that says about a person exactly. 🤔

  15. What is this nonsense about not writing this blog? Pish posh! When I see your avatar pop up it always brings a smile to my face. I am interested in taking the creativity quiz – I am a sucker for online quizzes – although I fear my creativity might be experiencing a dry spell. (My daughter still talks about the time she went to school on a Saturday – might be the equivalent of going to work on a holiday.)

    Liked by 4 people

    • Maggie, oh I do love a comment with a *pish posh* included in it. I try to be here with something to say, but there are days… I’m a sucker for online quizzes, too. This one is easy and fun, but I wonder if I took it a second time if I’d get the same score. Could have been a fluke.

You sent your daughter to school on a Saturday?! That’s funny and exactly like what Z-D did.

      Liked by 1 person

      • I took the test and scored an 86.??. It was fun. Not sure what I learned from it if anything. My daughter was young – first or second grade. It was my ex that sent her to school. She wondered why she was walking to school all alone. (Remember when we felt safe letting kids walk to school alone?) Yikes. There is a reason he is now an ex!

        Liked by 1 person

        • Oh Maggie, I do remember walking to school by myself and no one thought a thing of it. Just had to get there. As for your score that’s pretty high, but like you I’m not sure what I learned from the test other than it’s a fun way to spend a few minutes. Maybe that’s enough

  16. I join you in manifesting potatoes. We’ve had a rather lovely selection of them over the holiday period which I’ve enjoyed oh so very much! It’s times like these when I know that my Irish genes are strong.

I wanted to use that colour tool on my IG account but pretty much everything I posted this year was black & white, so it seemed a waste.

I was gutted to discover I came in under the average word creativity score. So you go ahead and rock that 93 – I would in your place!

Finally, thanks for the laugh Z-D 😀 Himself is also back at work today, but was not alone (although he might have preferred it if he was). I’d love to write about his place of work and his colleagues on my blog, but I have promised I won’t, just in case….

    Wishing you a positive 2022 🙂

    • Deb, I’m right there with you about the potatoes and my Irish ancestry. I do like spuds, but don’t know that I’ve ever intentionally attempted to manifest them before. Still if the psychic predictor says it is so, so be it.

I agree that the color app might not show you much if you’re doing B&W pics. Maybe next year. As for my score on the verbal creativity task, it may have been a one time thing but I’m still reveling in it.

As for Z-D’s mistake, I guess his employer is getting their money’s worth out of him. What a goof he is!

  20. Well done on the word score. I’m not able to take the test at this time because here I am trying to maintain my sanity . . . not sure what I’m manifesting – if someone popped in right now they’d say I was manifesting crying babies. I have a new 6 month old in my care today and she’s not terribly happy about it. I also have another 6 month old, but I already have her figured out so smooth sailing there. At least. I knew my after Christmas start back to day care was going to be hectic. There’s always nap time. One day, or one nap, at a time. I chuckled at Z-Den. Oh bother. Looking forward to all the laughs and intriguing thoughts that your 2022 posts promise.

The word test is interesting, but it’s also one of those things that I tend to take the results with a grain of salt. So many ways to be creative, words are just one part of it.

    • Marian, our tree is still glowing bright, too. We don’t usually take it down until Feast of the Epiphany, or after. Supposedly it’s bad luck to undecorate your house before then. At least that was the wife’s tale when I was a girl.

As for your tooth and birthday plans, one sounds necessary, the other sounds delightful. Both sound as if they’ll bring peace and harmony to your lives– just in different ways.

  23. Oh, such great procrastinating from working tools you shared today! I didn’t get to see what I’m manifesting, but I did see what I deserve (success and love, sure–I’ll take it) and my verbal creativity score. It took longer than it should have because I didn’t understand the directions and thought I had to come up with 10 synonyms for the word “consent,” (I got to 5) then I realized that “consent” was just a heading for the question about giving approval to share my results. I thought 10 random unconnected words was too simple to be the test. All of which shows that the comment my teacher put on my 2nd grade report card about math (Rita has trouble because she thinks the math is more complicated than it is) still holds.

    Liked by 4 people

    • Rita, you’ve made me laugh out loud. Thank you. I understand how you thought that you were supposed to find synonyms for “consent” and I also think your 2nd grade teacher was prescient. I’m glad that all was made clear to you eventually and that you caught onto the randomness of the task. I agree that you deserve success and love, but wonder why I manifested and you deserved? Still, I shall lose no sleep over this conundrum tonight.

      Like

      • I thought I had to find synonyms that all had variations in meaning–which is a much more interesting challenge! (In defense of my second-grade self, I think I was just trying to find a way to make math interesting.) It was only when I saw the bonus question that I clued in to my misunderstanding. I think the way to get a high score is to throw in at least one word that is pretty wildly different from the others (in my case, pizza). I would lose no sleep over that puzzle, either.

        Liked by 1 person

        • I was never into math either so I get why you were trying to make it interesting. Clever kid.

I bet you’re right about throwing in a wildly different word. I used ‘polyglot’ which is a word I don’t think I’ve ever used before.

    • Margaret, it was way too warm for Christmas around here. More like southern FL than OH. With your knowledge of French you may do well on the test just because you know so many words. 25. Could “Manifesting potatoes” mean that we need to be on the lookout for a potato shortage?!

We haven’t gone back to our “hybrid” schedule yet; but I can certainly understand Zen-Den’s not realizing he was working on a holiday. Since this whole thing began, I constantly forget what day/week/month/random holiday it is. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve scheduled a “vacation” (as if!)day…not realizing that the particular date in question was, in fact, a holiday.

    Happy New Year, Ally!

    • Gigi, do you suppose that’s the real meaning of it? Right now around here it’s difficult to find the crackers you want, so are potatoes next?

I had to laugh when Zen-Den realized what he’d done. No harm in it, of course– but excellent blog fodder. Kind of chuckling here to know that you’ve taken vacation days on holidays. I’m like you in that most weeks I am lost as to what day it is. That’s one of the reasons I try to post on Tuesdays. It keeps me aware of days of the week.

  37. Hi, Ally – I consulted @MAGICKMOODS on IG. On my first try it said that I was manifesting a Positive Mindset. On my second it said I was manifesting New Found Passion. I am happy with both! 😀
Thanks for the nudge in this direction.

    • Donna, it’s great that you’re manifesting ideas that make sense. Me? I’m manifesting a vegetable– and a starchy one at that! If nothing else @magickmoods makes you think… and wonder…

  38. Poor Zen-Den, working on a paid day-off. However, I can relate to getting so much done when it’s quiet in the office. It’s a good feeling. With skyrocketing COVID rates, our office is going back to full-time work from home for two weeks starting Monday. I truly hope that everyone will use the time to be cautious and avoid crowds, so that we can get back to the “normal” of just being a little worried about exposure, rather than this convinced that everyone you see is a potential risk. And congratulations on your high creativity score. I’m not surprised. Keep on writing!

    • Christie, Z-D admitted that he didn’t mind that he’d gone to work on the wrong day. He likes to be productive, and it wasn’t like he was depriving us of time together. He may or may not be going back into the office next week now that Omicron is spiking around here. I agree, I’d love to do things again without the worry of covid-19 hanging over me, but until everyone is vaccinated to the max, we live guarded lives. Kind of tedious, but *hey* best to stay healthy.

  39. I have often needed to manifest potatoes… True Story. You are colorful and you are positive, so I’m guessing you’ve manifested those colorful round fingerlings that make me smile 🙂

    • joey, I like how you think. I hadn’t put all the pieces together but you’re right, the potatoes I’m manifesting MUST be colorful fingerlings. So much more exciting than a russet.

  40. Hi Ally – happy new year to you and ZenDen (and glad he got work done even if had the day off – it could end up helping the month’s workload .. or not….)

and I am smiling at the manifesting potatoes? hahahah
I am not sure what I am manifesting (would a to do list count??)
but I have been enjoying potatoes this weekend – we made a roast and the leftover potatoes are delish.

    • Yvette, Z-D going to work when he didn’t have to is pure Zen-Den. No harm in it of course. Happy New Year to you, too.

I like the idea of manifesting a to-do list. When I finish manifesting all the potatoes I’ll start manifesting a to-do list. I need one, but once you start with the potatoes it’s hard to stop manifesting said. 😉

    • Martha, that psychic prediction thingie is a hoot. I’ve no idea how one is supposed to manifest potatoes, but I assure you I’m doing my best. Happy Sunday to you, too. We’re laying low today, but it is winter… so why not?

    • Mary, Happy New Year to you, too. I’m with you about hoping/praying for a healthier nation and world in 2022. As for manifesting potatoes, I’ll keep trying. Thanks for commenting here now– and in the future. 😊

    • Markus + Micah, you’re right that manifesting potatoes does have a German vibe to it. Good point, one I shall keep in mind as I continue manifesting– or writing, I suppose.

  42. Christmas Day was 34 here, I believe. Perfectly normal temperature-wise. Last year it was well into the 50s. And New Year’s Eve was snowy.

I’m sure you were dying for that Rapid City weather report.

    Off to take the test!

    • Mark, I was amazed by the temperatures and the rain. So much rain, but in a weird way it seemed like the perfect ending to 2021, just another thing that was off.
