One Last 2022 Post: Alexa Gets Nosy & I Ask You A Question

ALEXA GETS NOSY

“The answer is negative one.”

I was composing an email reply to a friend who’d written about a mutual acquaintance who was going through a difficult time.

I was rereading out loud what I’d written to make sure my grammar was correct and the content made sense. I’m a wordy girl after all and I take pride in how I put words together in a sentence.

Even in casual correspondence.

What I’d written, saying to myself in a quiet mumble, was: “ALSO SHE HAS ONLY ONE, NOT TWO, MEANS TO DO WHAT SHE DOES.” It was praise for our mutual acquaintance and how she was handling things.

But then out of nowhere, unasked, Alexa the little eavesdropper piped up saying the line I shared at the top of this post.

She startled me so much I jumped into the air and almost lost my stuffing. Confused and annoyed, I wanted to figure out why the heck she’d inserted herself into my life.

I looked at what I’d written then said to myself a few seconds before. I realized that Alexa had understood the word “ALSO” to be her name, then she’d interpreted what I’d said after that to be a math problem.

That is, I’d said “…ONE NOT TWO MEANS…” which she translated to the equation 1 – 2 = [one minus two equals] resulting in her reply [“the answer is negative one”] that she blurted out answering the question she thought I’d asked her.

Which, of course, I hadn’t.

And with that ridiculous realization about what had just happened, I solved my nosy Alexa mystery.

Bless. Her. Heart.

I ASK YOU A QUESTION

This will be my last blog post of 2022, but I have one last thing to ask you, my little partridges in a pear tree. I have four blog posts started, but FAR from finished. They require more research &/or introspection than I’m willing to put into them in December.

Because I want to goof off now, thus I shall write later.

Getting to what might be the actual point of this post, which one of the topics listed immediately below would you like me to write about first when I return? Yep, I’m crowdsourcing this decision so please tell me your preference in the comments. Thank you in advance for your kind cooperation concerning this matter.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE
See you next year

  1. Oh good golly – your Alexa story is the best! Please do not lose your stuffing, Ally Bean. 😉 Merry Everything to you – enjoy the holidays and “see” you in the new year! As for blog posts and what comes first?! Too hard to choose! The Minnie Driver teaser is ultra-intriguing…and I’d love your granola recipe, but blogging wisdom and peeking into what you’re jettisoning for ‘23? I’ll vote for either of those two topics to be first up. Big hugs! 🥰

    • Victoria, I cannot overstate how startled I was when Alexa blurted out what she did. I was home alone and it was quiet, then… 😳

I appreciate your reasoning about which topic you prefer. I’ve added your choice to the list, qualified though it may be. Thanks for playing along and giving me some guidance. Happy Holidays 🎄

    • I’m with Vicki – that Alexa story is a good one. I can totally see why you’d be startled. And I love that you read your sentence out loud – what a great practice!! No wonder your stuff hangs together so well!

I vote for what you are rejecting in 2023.

Thanks, as always, for the great entertainment and wonderful blogging friendship in 2022! Happy Holidays!

      • Wynne, I was so startled by Alexa, but once I realized what had happened I was amused. Sort of.

Another vote for rejection– which is a sentence that sounds sadder than the topic we would be. Thanks for telling me your preference and thanks for your blogging friendship. Happy Holidays! 🎄

  2. The answer to your question’s an easy one. Of the four, I want you to write about the one that interests you the most; after all, if a writer’s bored with a topic, readers will be, too. And if none of the topics excites you come January? Go with the as-yet-contentless number five that does. In the meantime, enjoy the season!

    • Linda, I opened up my decision-making process because I like to include my gentle readers whenever I can. I appreciate knowing what interests other people so I can learn, grow, be relevant. It’s not that I’m not interested in these four possibilities, I’ll write on all off them eventually, it’s that I’m open to some guidance from bloggy friends. Happy Holidays 🎄

  3. Merry Christmas, Ms. Bean . . . to you and yours (including Alexa, that nosy so & so).

As far as topics go ~ your blog, your choice. Whichever one you most want to address first will be the right one.

    • Nancy, I asked this question because I’m open to guidance. It can get lonely only relying on yourself about what to do next. But I take your point, personal blogs are personal. Happy Holidays 🎄

  4. That is a very funny story. I think it would be great to read about the five people who helped me become the blogger I am today. Although I’d love your granola recipe too. Happy Holidays!! See you in 2023. xo

  5. Alexa listens to you all of the time?! Kinda creepy, Ally Bean!
I vote for the existential questions one. (Thanks for asking!)
Happy Holidays and see you next year! 😉

    • Ellen D, I didn’t realize exactly how much Alexa was listening in. It is creepy, but she’s useful when I need her. Keeping her around is kind of a conundrum.

I’ve added your choice to the tally. I do like existential thinking. 🤔

      Happy Holidays 🎄

    • Arlene, you’re right! Oh if she’d only told me “42” I’d have been delighted, but alas… she was logical… and accurate.

I’ve added your preference to the tally I’m keeping. This will be great fun to see which topic I write about next. Happy Holidays 🎄

  6. Alexa is a creepy eavesdropper. I can see how Alexa could be really useful for someone with their hands busy all the time or with a disability, but she also seems like a potentially terrible combination of Big Brother and Nurse Ratched to me.

    I vote granola.

  7. I dislike the idea of artificial intelligence listening to me at any given moment which is why I don’t have Alexa. Artificial intelligence scaring the bejesus out of me and answering a question I didn’t ask? Just… no.
That being said, it doesn’t matter what your blog topic is because everything you write is worth reading.

    • Rivergirl, I figure that AI has been listening in on us for years via the cable TV connections + cell phones, but I take your point. Alexa is a little too interested in us and obvious about it.

Thanks for your vote of confidence but I get tired of deciding what to write about by myself, so I opened it up to the group. I need guidance– and who better to ask than my bloggy friends?

  9. Our Alexa only grunts on occasion. I figured she had heartburn. Poor thing has to live here with 4 cats! Any topic that intrigues you will intrigue us but if you’d like an answer, I’m curious that you would reject for 2023. I don’t think of you as a frivolous person with a need to toss off anything.

    • Kate, your Alexa grunts?! Well that’s never happened here and I’m glad. Perhaps you need to offer her some AI Tums. 😉

I’ve added your preference to the list because all votes matter! Happy Holidays 🎄

  10. The 2023 rejection list please. Great way to start off a new year by kicking everything useless to the curb. I see that as a celebration Ally Bean! On another note- Alexa! I sincerely hope that I can make it out of this world without ever having to have Alexa, or like device, as a part of my life. I know that day is coming, creepy devices somehow moving themselves directly into the human world, listening and plotting. I will fight to the end.

  11. I started to say you could also ask Alexa her opinion, but then, you may get that anyway (unsolicited). As for me, 4 and 3 are close contesters, with 4 being my top choice. Until it’s time to dive in to whichever topic is selected, enjoy your goofing off. And happy holidays to you, Ally Bean!🎄

  12. Granola. Definitely granola. I’ve revived & and adjusted my personal hippie recipe over the course of 2022 and make it regularly now. So, I’d be interested in your granola recipe journey and might even piggyback off your post timing for a post of my own…geesh I keep saying that about some of your posts and yet, have I done so as of now???
Meh. ‘Tis the season to be jolly – so Ms Bean let’s go with that!
    😎

    • Laura, I’ve added your vote to the list. I do like the hippie vibe that comes along with granola. BUT I can’t commit to writing about that topic first until all the votes have been tallied… like by the end of the year. Happy Holidays 🎄

  13. We don’t have Alexa or anything like her. Our house is crowded enough with four adults. As far as the blogging question goes, anytime I see your posts in my inbox I’m happy. That said, I think I’d like to read about what you are getting rid of in 2023 and your answers to the Minnie Driver questions. Have a spectacular holiday, Ms. Bean. See you next year!

    Liked by 4 people

    • Janet, you’re right the last thing you need in your house is Alexa. She’d be joining in conversations all the time. She’s nosy, you know. 🙄

I’ve added your preference to the tally. I don’t know yet what I’ll be writing about but asking everyone has been fun. Happy Holidays 🎄

  14. Hi Ally Bean, all topics would be interesting. Not particularly interested to know what drives Minnie though. Alexa – sometimes what I’ve just
talked about in real time, appears as written script in a whats app on an open tab of a friend/contact. Huh? What’s that doing there? I didn’t write that. Uh oh I was saying that in conversation . Ultra creepy.
Happy Holidays! See you next year! Have fun, be safe and well.

    • Susan, the Minnie Driver questions are from her podcast that I find interesting. She’s a good interviewer come to find out, has a nice sense of humor.

I’m amazed by what your Alexa does. Ours has never turned talk into written script. I don’t know whether I feel cheated– or pleased. The whole AI phenomenon & how it impacts us is difficult to process sometimes.

  15. I’m a sucker for existential questions, so, that’s my first choice. What you’re kicking to the curb is #2, followed by blogging influences. I’m pretty “meh” about granola, but I’ll read that one, too. I figure you’d make even granola interesting. 🙂

As for Alexa, I won’t let her in my house. I know this is pretty irrational, as it is clear that our phones are violating our privacy just as much as Alexa would. But at least they don’t randomly blurt at us. I would like to get rid of all of it. Wish I could kick all of that to the curb in 2023, but I know I’ve let myself become far too dependent on it.

    Liked by 3 people

    • Rita, I like a good existential question, too. Minnie’s Questions is a podcast I listen to once in a while, she asks interesting questions of interesting people.

I understand your reservations about Alexa, like you I figure our cell phones are already snooping on us. I feel the same way about Fitbits or Apple watches that track your every move. I won’t use them.

  16. Ally, I kicked Alexa to the curb last year when she interrupted a conversation I was having with my father to insert her opinion. I promptly unplugged her and stuck her in a burea!

It’s hard to choose just one topic out of that list. But I have to go with the Minnie Driver one since she started a podcast to discuss these issues. So there must be lots to discuss! (Though your blog usually features existential questions of some sort. 😊😊😊)

    Happy holidays!

    • L. Marie, I’ve yet to have Alexa join in a conversation although I know she can do that, I’ve heard stories. I suspect that Z-D and I are so boring she can’t be bothered to contribute her opinion.

Minnie’s podcast is interesting. Her questions are simple yet unique leading to insights which may, or may not, be of interest to readers. Thanks for joining in with your preference.

  17. Dear Miss Ally,

Merry Christmas to you and your wonderful family. I wish you a safe new years eave and a love filled holiday season. May the new year bring many blessings.

    Speaking of the new year . . . .
I would like to hear your thoughts on the five people who helped you become the blogger you are.

I leave you with this Ally, I’ve met many folks along the way who have been an inspiration to me as a blogger. Having recently fallen into the pit of blackness many bloggers fall into, I found one who has given me the desire to pull myself out of that pit and start again on my journey. Next year I will reveal that person. Call this my New Years Resolution. I’ve never made one before.

    Warm Regards

Best of luck with your NY’s Resolution. I’m not great with them, truth be told. BUT I’m sure you’ll do brilliantly. Right back at you about having a safe and lovely Christmas. It can be a lovely time of year.

  20. Well as tempting (and hilarious) as the warmup teaser about granola sounds…
I am 100% Team What I’m Rejecting This Year.

We have Google speakers and they interject at the weirdest points in a conversation or, occasionally, just start playing music randomly. I use them every day and am not ready to get rid of them…but they do freak me out slightly…

    Liked by 3 people

    • Elisabeth, I’ve added your preference to the tally. Alexa has yet to randomly play music and I’m feeling like she should. Show a little spunk. Take some initiative that doesn’t scare the stuffing out of me. Tunes wouldn’t startle me like her disembodied voice did.

  21. We have never activated Alexa or Siri on any of our devices, finding the idea of them sitting there listening to our inane chatter rather creepy. Unbeknownst to us, however, my husband’s new Kindle reader came with Alexa activated. One evening, we were watching some show in which an actor asked his device to find a particular song he had been looking for. Almost immediately, a voice came from Bill’s Kindle asking if this was the song we were looking for, and some piece of music started playing. We did lose our stuffing, and disabled the little snoop faster than you can sing “Hit the Road, Jack.”
I’m eager to read about what you are rejecting in 2023. There are so many deserving possibilities…. Happy holidays, Ally.

    • Donna, I have a love/hate relationship with Alexa, although I admit she must be bored silly listening to what we talk about. I didn’t know Kindles came with Alexa now. Mine is old, old, old– and I rarely use it. I can imagine how startled you were to hear her tell you something you hadn’t asked– especially not know she could talk. AI is going to take a lot of getting used to.

I’ve added your preference to the tally. Should be fascinating to see what topic wins. So far it’s fairly even distribution– which isn’t helping me at all.

  22. I always turn my nose up at people who tell funny stories about their Alexa devices because in reality I want one too. So I’m not jealous at all, nope. It’s an easy choice for your blog post: your answers to Minnie Driver’s existential questions. Why? Because (a) I’m nosy; and (b) they remind me of the Proust Questionnaire, which I’ve always enjoyed in the back of the Vanity Fair magazine. Happy Holidays! – Marty

    Liked by 3 people

    • Marty, Alexa has her purposes and I like her for that, but she is weird sometimes. While explaining her reason for her questions, Minnie mentions how she likes the Proust Questionnaire and considers it inspiration. Her podcast is interesting.

  23. Several years ago, son #3 got us Alexa for a Christmas present. Although it was cool to ask her “Alexa, what will the weather be at 7:00 a.m.?”, it was creepy to have her eavesdropping on all of our conversations. We ultimately unplugged her, wrapped her up, and put her deep in the basement in a secure storage container.

Any of the last 3 topics would be great, Ally. If you get around to all of them sometime next year, I look forward to reading (and responding).

No preference about what I write about next? Got it, just don’t complain if your favorite topic, and I know you must have one, isn’t the one that wins. 🤷‍♀️

    * the five people who helped me become the blogger I am today

Sorry, but I don’t care much about what Minnie Driver thinks although I enjoyed her acting in Circle of Friends. Maybe I’ll change my mind about the topic in the new year. Hahaha!

Happy Holiday to you, Zen-Den et al. 😀

    • Marian, I’ve recorded your preferences and thank you for adding them to the list. Minnie Driver has a podcast based on her asking seven questions, those are the existential questions. She talks with interesting guests [not all Hollywood types] and makes me smile at her insights into human nature.

      Happy Holidays! 🎄

  25. Ally, I’m gonna go with Minnie’s questions. Anytime I see those kind of questions answered by a person, it gives me a little better idea of what they’re all about. Of course, we have our public side and our private side, and maybe all of the questions aren’t answered truthfully, but I think any response at all helps me get to know someone just a smidge better. We don’t have electronic assistants in our home, but we’ve always thought it would be hysterical to give it a go at some point. Perhaps some day we’ll want someone else to talk to besides each other…nah, probably not. Happy Holidays!🎄

Whenever I have it for breakfast I think, “Wow, it is so cool to have a yummy crunched up oatmeal cookie with yogurt for breakfast and think of it as hippie health food.” LOL!
I don’t have an Alexa and am surprised she’s such a crazy eavesdropper.
Have a wonderful holiday season and a happy new year!

Alexa is an arbitrary sort of AI *friend.* I like her when she’s useful, so perhaps I’m fickle and unsure of my relationship with her. Happy Holidays! 🎄

Goddam Alexa inserting herself into your life. My moth titled our device, “Echo,” so she answers to that. It’s not only Echo piping up in the middle of conversations with friends, at our place, it is also the GPS or some moth-installed car phone connector gadget interrupting the driving experience. These big eared devices are always listening, damn them.

    Still, freaky.

  31. … and that is why I continue to resist having an Alexa in my house. It’s just too creepy.

As far as your blog posts, I’m a bit torn between three and four (and I hope you eventually write about all of them) but I think I vote for three… The first of the year – or anytime, actually – is a great time to reject what doesn’t serve us.

    • Janis, you are a wise woman. Once she enters your life she seems to be here. She does some cool things, but is also creepy.

The topic of what to reject is a result of a conversation with a friend. It seems to be winning at the moment… but there’s a lifetime left in this game, as they say.

  32. Your “conversation” with Also Alexa is a hoot. It is representative of the quintessential communication glitches that occur between humans—the laughable, unexpected, cockamamie misunderstandings and misinterpretations of the human species limited by language. You’ve gotta see the humor in it all, and laugh at our foibles, and bless us all for being so silly and lovable all at once.
As a Pisces and Enneagram 9, my answer to your questions is, “Whatever. You decide.” I always enjoy your posts!

    • Julia, Alexa and I have a wary relationship. I admit she can be useful and I like to listen to music via her, but there are other moments when I wonder about her… about me.

Now you’re not helping me at all by telling me to decide! I do that all the time, I just wanted a little input about what is of interest to my readers. However I appreciate the compliment and should you decide you want to register your vote, please feel free.

  33. The Husband absolutely refuses to have Alexa in our home. Maybe he’s on to something or maybe he’s crazy. Either way, I KNOW our phones and computers are listening and watching every move we make, so what’s the difference?

But I talk to myself (and other objects) enough, God knows I don’t need one of them talking back to me!

All four subjects are intriguing and makes it hard to choose. But, if I have to, I choose what I’m rejecting this year [2023] – but I’m thinking this could be a positive. Because, to me, what you may be rejecting may actually set you free for other positive things to come in to your life. And maybe, what you are rejecting will give some of us food for thought as to what we might need to reject in our own lives to let the good bits seep in and take it’s place.

Have a very Merry Christmas, Ally!

    • Gigi, I’ve always wondered about cable TV and if it’s a way for others to listen into a house. I’ve no proof of course, but it’s not a far step to figure that our cell phones and/or Alexa are snoops, too.

I talk to machines, also– although Alexa is the first one to initiate a conversation with me. 🤔

Yes, anything that I’d write about what I’m rejecting would ultimately be a positive post. I’m not going all Debbie Downer, just trying to make sense of some of my assumptions. It’s really more of few notes at this point, but by January it’ll be a post. I hope.

Thanks for adding your vote to the tally. Happy Holidays! 🎄

  34. How am I supposed to choose among all those intriguing topics, Ally? They all sound excellent. Perhaps I would put rejections at the top of the list, just to get it out of the way.

Our Alexa is a buttinsky quite often. Just yesterday, I was chatting with my husband and daughter about crackers and Alexa piped up, “I’ve added crackers to your grocery list.” No thank you, Alexa. And then she wanted to know if we wanted a suggestion for something she thinks we need to re-order. NO THANK YOU ALEXA.

Have a wonderful end-of-year and happy holidays, Ally! You make my life merrier and brighter!

    • Suzanne, thanks for your kind thoughts about all the topics– and about this blog. I decided to crowdsource this just to see what readers had to say and it’s been fascinating. I figure everyone who reads here regularly should be given a voice in this decision. Why not, huh?

I’m laughing about your crackers. I haven’t had Alexa volunteer to add something to the grocery list, but she is quite insistent that I NEED to know what the humidity is outside. I ask for the temperature outside and then she prods me to let her tell me the humidity, too. I usually do, to humor her.

  35. Kudos to you for figuring out the meaning behind what Alexa said. I don’t use Alexa, but along the same lines, auto-correct has produced a few embarrassing situations. I admit I’m that person who will always send a follow-up text so that people don’t think I’ve become an idiot or a pervert.😊

    • Pete, I was baffled by what Alexa said because it seemed nonsensical at first until I reviewed what I’d said. Then, boom. I’ve had some issues with auto-correct too. It can be annoying.

No preference about what I write about next? A few others have tried to tell me that, but like I told them I can use the guidance. But hey, don’t let that influence you! 😉

  36. Oh my gosh, exactly why I will not invite Alexa to my house! (I did get a free nest hub from Google and gave it to my husband. He enjoys it, but I do not interact with it.)

Well, I’d go for subjects #2 or #3, but anything you write is fine by me. Have a wonderful holiday season, Ally. I’ll be taking a blogging break in January, but will stop in to read some.

    • Eilene, yes I take your point about Alexa. I find some features useful, but then she pipes up like this and I begin to wonder.

Thanks for telling me your preferences. They’ve been duly noted and all shall be revealed next year. I’m having fun with this crowdsourcing idea, I’ve never done anything like this before. I’ll see you when I see you next year. Enjoy your break.

  37. “My little partridges in a pear tree” HA! You are so inventive with your terms of endearment. Methinks Alexa might need a hearing aid for Christmas. Blog about the last two – rejection and influences. I had ideas for 3 December blogs but haven’t managed to even start any of them. Maybe next week – if I can get Christmas cake made.

    • Joni, I’ll admit that I enjoy finding new and inventive ways to refer to y’all. I can only say “gentle readers” so many times.

Thanks for letting me know your preferences. I’ve added them to the tally. I understand about having ideas for blog posts, but not getting to them. Hence this crowdsource idea. I figure who better to tell me what to do than the people who are regular readers.

  38. If I can only choose one, it’s what you plan on rejecting in 2023. If I can rank them, I’d like what you’re rejecting, Minnie’s questions, your five most influential bloggers, and the granola recipe. Have a good holiday season and we’ll see you next year!

  39. I think Alexa is getting too big for her britches again Ally! What in the world? Those are all good topics. I would be interested in learning more about granola and also “what I’m rejecting this year [2023]” as I remember you wrote about your “word of the year for 2022”. Have a wonderful break and Christmas holidays.

    • Linda, yes Alexa is something unique to have around. When she spoke up unasked I was SO SURPRISED. I keep giving her the side eye now.

I’ve recorded your preference in the tally. This has been a different way to decide my writing future. Rather fun

  40. Alright Ally, I can see this is the very last blog post for this year and you know what, you nailed it, you need to be tagged for these blogging tags(I guess that will sink in next year).

I am looking forward to reading more of your posts in the new year and happy holidays too, God bless🙌🙌🌲🌳🌳🙏

  41. I don’t have an Alexa. Do you enjoy yours? I’ve been reading some interesting things about AI lately. I suppose it will be in all of our lives sooner or later. I’ve read a couple of articles about ChatGPT. It can write something for you in whatever style you choose. It’s really quite amazing. I’m also been reading some science fiction (not my usual genre), and I found a great series. The first book is called All Systems Red. It’s a short book, and I loved it.

Now your question: I would like to know about your granola recipe. But I’m even more curious about Minnie Driver’s Existential Questions.

    Liked by 3 people

    • Nicki, that is THE question about Alexa. I like her ability to play music and be a timer and tell me the outside temperature/forecast BUT that’s almost all she does for me. Occasionally I’ll be using an old recipe and ask her something like: “how many cups in a quart?” Or Z-D will ask her to define a new-to-him word that he’s come across in his reading. These are all things we could do by ourselves elsewhere but she makes it easy.

Thanks for the book suggestion. I haven’t read any sci-fi in years. I’ve added your blog topic choice to the list. This has been fun to crowdsource, thanks for joining in.

  42. I don’t have Alexa, but I have SIRI and she’s as nosy as Alexa. She’s surprised me several times when I was conversing with another human, not even thinking Siri was there with us!

Oh….choices, I love choices! I’m going to go with number three or four. Bring on the rejections and blog helpers!

    • Suz, I don’t have Siri but I have no doubt she’s an eavesdropper, too. As are our cell phones and our smart watches, I reckon. Such is modern life.

I’ve added your choice to the tally. Thanks for chiming in. It’s going to be interesting to see which topic is the top choice.

  43. I’m just plain shocked that Alexa could possibly try to jump into your conversation. Since mine is a glorified kitchen timer I just when she thinks she hears her name. I’ve had laryngitis for weeks now and I have to shout at her.

Oh, I didn’t read all the comments but I vote for granola. I make a variety of tasty granola. Or I did, I have people wanting some of my tasty granola but I don’t have most of the ingredients as that stuff went away when I went K*to. Now I’ve thrown away all the k*to crap. I’m fickle, I guess but I love granola!

    • Zazzy, Alexa seems to be in a world of her own making, chatting when she feels like it. Kind of wacky, kind of creepy. I use ours as a kitchen timer, too. And occasionally ask her about measurement equivalents.

I’ve recorded your preference. I’ve only started making granola in the last few years. A wife of one of Z-D’s coworkers made some and gave it to us as a Christmas gift. I ate it and said, “wait a minute I could make that, too.” So I did and I have.

  45. Oh, that Alexa– the eavesdropping gal who just want to be so helpful!!

I’ve had Siri respond to me a couple of times unexpectedly. Once, I responded rudely with, “I wasn’t talking to you, Siri!” and she apologized.

I vote for what you’d reject in 2023. I’m very interested in the granola recipe, too — but since you’ll come back at the start of the new year, what you’re rejecting is very close to a new year’s resolution, in my mind at least.

Happy Holidays to you and yours!

  46. I’m just commenting because I thought it was funny there were 161 comments here already. You have created your own Hell. I think you should write about, oh, I don’t know. What was the make of your first car, and what were the circumstances surrounding its first dent?

    Liked by 3 people

    • Roy, thanks for joining in and commenting. As you’ve noticed I have a loyal and articulate bunch of bloggy friends here. It could be hell if I let the comments get away from me. I sometimes explain that a blogging comment section is like the ocean, you don’t want to turn your back on it lest it pull you under.

My first car was a Pontiac Sunbird, a piece of crap. I don’t remember the first dent, but I do remember that the muffler came loose and started dragging on the ground while I was driving it to go pick up a new Honda Accord, a winner in all ways.

      Liked by 3 people

      • Sounds like the Sunbird might be fuel for a good blog post. I never owned one, but a friend did, and it was indeed a piece of crap. Glad you wound up with a Honda. In my experience at least, one of the best makes during the era of the Sunbird.

  49. Despite being “off” blogging, your question drew me in Ms Bean (you clever thing you!)

Like most on here, I believe all 4 will make entertaining blogs as you will be the writer, but I am drawn most to 1) 2023’s rejection list or 2) Minnie’s questions (in that order). Indeed, I didn’t know about her podcast, so I’m now also drawn to check it out.

    Happy holidays chez Bean 🙂

I thought “didn’t she bug out for the year?” I’m flattered to know that my own brand of flapdoodle and twaddle could entice you out of your seclusion, briefly. And thanks for letting me know which topic you prefer.

I found Minnie’s podcast this fall and have listened to a few episodes. MD is a capable interviewer with a sly sense of humor that appeals to me. Not all her guests are Hollywood celebs.

Enjoy the break and Merry Christmas!

I love hearing other ppl’s ponderings of existential questions but I also love reading about how one gets to be who they are, especially as writers/bloggers! 🙂 Happppy break!!! And happy holidays to you!! 🙂

    • Jenn, excellent point. No way would my child self have believed much of what I take for granted now. Phones without cords? TVs with hundreds of stations? Research at your fingertips rather than going to the library? I’d have not believed it.

Oh that Alexa! She is a nosy one, but I wonder what she would say if you started swearing at her or asked her, “What is the mystery of life?” Enjoy your time off, the rest of December and the holidays. Eat cookies, take naps, and mess with Alexa.

A challenging question where I immediately gravitated to the “five people who helped me…” a positive spin and I would love to hear your gems. The Minnie Driver initially came in second. Her spirit leaps from the pages, the screen, and her podcast.

Okay, I reread the Minnie Driver one in full and her questions gave me goosebumps…the true sign of something extra good. I am now placing the Minnie Driver one as number one choice.✨

It would be fun and interesting to read your interviews using these questions from some of your loyal and fascinating followers and possibly add this to your monthly posts? You likely have thought about this.

    • Erica/Erika, I enjoy reading about your reasoning for choosing Minnie Questions. I like them too and will answer them at some point, whether it’ll be my first post of the new year remains to be seen. I am, after all, crowdsourcing the topic so majority rules.

I’ve briefly thought about having some stock questions I ask bloggers & doing an interview series BUT I’m lazy and interviewing people takes work. In case you’re interested Jenn at BosssyBabe does a monthly blogger interview series that I enjoy.

I’m flattered that you took the time to read and comment here. I enjoy seeing your name [names?] pop up in my comments. Thanks for your kind encouragement. Happy New Year to you and yours.
