The “Randomness” Meme

Cheri of Naples Girl Blog tagged me with this randomness meme.  Fun, huh?  But me being me, I will play along… to a point.  I tend to make up my own rules when it comes to memes.  So here we go, okay?

The REVISED Rules:

  • First, post these rules on your blog.
  • Second, post 11 random things about yourself.
  • Third, answer the questions posed to you by the blogger of the blog where you first read this meme.
  • Last, create 11 new questions for any blogger who chooses to do this meme next.
  • No need to tag anyone on your blog or on twitter.  Those bloggers who want to do this meme should do it [linking back to original source, of course]… and those bloggers who don’t want to do this meme should not do it [forgetting that they ever knew it existed].

11 RANDOM FACTS ABOUT ME

  1. My eyes appear to be blue, but in actuality I have a little bit of green around each iris.
  2. I don’t like popcorn very much.
  3. I played the violin from the time I was in second grade until I graduated from high school.  I couldn’t wait to get to college and give it up.
  4. I’m fond of tulips.
  5. I went online for the first time from my home in January of 1997.  It changed my life for the better in ways that I never could have imagined.
  6. I’m allergic to mold spores.
  7. I recently gave away my grandparents’ dining room table.  It was in great shape, but we had tired of it.  I thought about selling it, but decided that giving it to a couple who needed a table right now was more in keeping with my values.
  8. I have narrow feet.
  9. My favorite Bible verse is: “Be strong and let your heart take courage.” Psalm 31:24.
  10. I have lots of old photos that I’d like to put into this blog, but we have the world’s most ridiculous printer that only allows me to scan when it is in the mood.  Which isn’t very often.  There is no fussier machine in the world.
  11. I think that Glee is delightful.

11 QUESTIONS FROM CHERI

  1. What is your fave book?  Winnie The Pooh.
  2. Are you a healthy eater?  Some days, yes.
  3. Do you believe in prayer?  Yes.
  4. Do you own any pets?  No.  We had two cats, but they died… and we never got around to getting any more pets after that.
  5. Who does the cooking in your house?  We both do.
  6. Are you working in the field of study that was your major in college?  Yes.
  7. When is the last time you laughed so hard your stomach hurt?  Watching an episode of The Big Bang Theory… Sheldon can make me laugh like no other character on TV.
  8. If you could live anywhere, where would you live?  You know, I don’t really know for sure.  Somewhere with more sunshine than around here, but not too muggy and buggy.
  9. Which is your fave season?  Autumn.
  10. Who is your fave artist?  Vincent Van Gogh.
  11. Do you consider yourself crafty?  No.  Both in the ability to make cute things with my hands definition of the word– and in the sneaky, conniving sort of person definition of the word!

Five Senses Friday

Feeling:

rather calm considering that:

there are half-finished drapes hanging on the kitchen windows… the house is three-fourths decorated for Christmas… I haven’t begun to figure out what to serve at a party we’re having in two weeks… the handyman guy for the leaky bathroom window is dragging his feet while tightly clutching our money and not doing the repairs… we have a huge muddy mess in our basement where there is a crack in the chimney foundation or a leak in the chimney cap [or both I suppose]… and we have now hired some company to fix our foundation/chimney/cap mess before winter sets in.

Hearing:

the sound of the [new] furnace blower as it keeps our house warm

Tasting:

freshly brewed black coffee

Seeing:

strewn in front of my computer on my desk:

clipboards – white paper printed with info – small yellow legal paper scribbled with ideas – one blue pen – one book – many pink & blue 3×5″ index cards – dust

Smelling:

not much of anything because allergies have my nose stuffed up

10 Questions

I’ve been tagged by the lovely PollyBurns2 of caughtwriting to answer 10 questions, so we all get to know one another a little better.  The idea is to then tag someone else, preferably someone who is taking part in the NaBloPoMo project.  So here goes:

1. Describe yourself in seven words.

I laugh. I learn. I love. Usually.

2. What keeps you awake at night?

Lower back pain from a goofy gardening accident.  Other than that I sleep quite well.  In fact, I’m rather known for my ability to sleep for long periods of time.

3. If you could be anyone for a day, who would you be and why?

I’d like to be Diane Sawyer.  She’s smart, articulate, interested (and therefore interesting), and pretty.  She anchors a newscast where she is responsible for setting the news agenda for the evening–  and she is married to a successful, creative man.  Yep, that’s who I’d want to be.

4. What are you wearing right now?

Faded jeans, an aqua t-shirt with a teal cardigan sweater, and brown leather clogs.  And eyeglasses, of course.

5. What scares you?

Political dictators.  All of ’em across the world.

6. What are the best and worst things about blogging?

I agree with PollyBurns2’s answer.  “Best thing:  sharing ideas and getting inspiration from the amazing bloggers I’ve discovered so far.  Worst thing:  there are so many blogging events and challenges to get involved in, that there just isn’t enough time to do everything I want to do.”

7. What was the last website you looked at, apart from Twitter and Facebook?

Arts & Letters Daily

8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I’d be physically stronger.  I can workout every day of the week  and never gain any noticeable muscles.  No definition, no wow factor.  I always remain the same old flabby me.

9. Slankets – yes or no?  (This apparently divides the blogging world.)

First, I had to find out what a slanket is.  [Click here.]  And now I can tell you that I’m not a fan.

10. Tell us something about the person who tagged you.

PollyBurns2 writes insightful posts about what she’s thinking about;  and is a kind-hearted woman who included me in this meme so that I’d have one more thing to post on my blog during NaBloPoMo.

I’m going to tag the delightful Zazzy at zazamataz.com who is the only other blogger I know who is doing NaBloPoMo.  Take it away, Zazzy!

The “7 Things About Me” Meme

I saw this meme at Sweet Tea.  I thought that it looked like a fun “dog days of summer I have nothing else to say because my brain is fried” kind of post.

I’m to list 7 random things about myself… add this button to my post… and then invite other bloggers to do the same thing.  Consider yourself invited.

1.  I like mushrooms and pineapple on my pizza.  Don’t judge.  It’s good.  Zen-Den refers to it as “dessert” pizza.

2.  I stood in line at Starbucks behind Peter Frampton one day.  I didn’t realize it at the time, but later when I saw his photo in the newspaper I realized that the handsome, pleasant Englishman in front of me, who everyone in the shop was looking at, was Peter Frampton.

3.  I love to go for walks in city parks.  Movement +  people watching = entertainment. Throw in a few inquisitive dogs on a leash and I’m smiling for hours after I finish walking.

4.  I like palm trees.  They are happy trees.  When I see them in real life I know that I’m on vacation.  When I see them in photos I remember that I was on vacation– near happy trees– having a good time.

5.  I don’t like pastel pink.  I like fuchsia, dark pink, or honeysuckle;  these shades of pink have some zing to them.  But pastel pink makes me anxious and irritable.  It’s too demure and passive for me.

6.  I think that social media is lots of fun, but that too many people take it way too seriously.  Lighten up, people.  Live from your heart, not from your FB friend count.

7.  I have narrow feet.  Finding shoes that fit is difficult and always has been.  For me, when it comes to shoes, it’s not about getting what I want– as much as taking what I’m given.

Tasting:

freshly brewed black coffee

Seeing:

bright pink petunias growing every which way in the planting bed next to the front sidewalk

Smelling:

the slightly herbal, kind of citrus-y scent from my bath soap

The “If You Know Me Well, You Know…” Meme

•  If you know me well, you know that I start each day with black coffee.

•  If you know me well, you know that I like to grow flowers, but have a rickety back that sometimes doesn’t allow me to do much of anything but look at what is growing– which means, in practical terms, that I like to grow weeds, too.

•  If you know me well, you know that I am a jeans and t-shirt sort of girl.  With flat shoes/sandals.  I rock casual.

•  If you know me well, you know that I am not overly enamored with the human race.  Never have been.  Even in 6th grade when I was forced to sing that stupid “Up, Up, With People” song, I didn’t buy into it.  I always thought that the second line, “you meet ’em wherever you go,” was more gypsy curse than inspirational.  Still do.

•  If you know me well, you know that when wrapping a gift I always put tissue paper inside the gift bag or box– and that I prefer [fun] curly ribbon to [boring] straight ribbon.

•  If you know me well, you know that I am allergic to April and August.  And most dogs and cats.  And dust mites.  And some wines.  And antibacterial soap.  And many scented candles.

•  If you know me well, you know that I have never been to a karaoke bar– which I consider to be a blessing.

•  If you know me well, you know that I read books, websites, magazines about interior design.  I learn what I can from these sources, and then I apply what I like to this  house.  Sometimes it even looks good.

•  If you know me well, you know that I’m a lapsed Presbyterian.

•  If you know me well, you know that I enjoy going to the zoo.  I’m a fan of the okapi, the spectacled bear, and the pigmy marmoset.  I also like giraffes and otters.  And penguins, of course.  I’m rather open-minded about which animals I like at the zoo.

[H/T to Michelle at Bleeding Espresso.  You posted this last year.  I get to it this year.  Better late than never, eh?]
