More Snow, More Gray, More Mellow

SATURDAY THE SKIES WERE bright blue and it was sunny outside, but very cold.  We spent the whole day driving every which way around the region, doing errands.

Not being at home, basically.

Then Sunday arrived, even colder than Saturday.  We decided to stay inside, doing pretty much nothing worth talking about.

LATE IN THE AFTERNOON it started to snow again, so I grabbed my camera and took some photos of winter scenes in the waning afternoon light.

As shown here, the midwestern winter colors are a natural earthy palette all their own.  Very subdued, tending towards gray.  Either you like them [I do], or you don’t.

To me, these shades of gray, which I only see for a few weeks during the year, are a reminder to relax and mellow out.

Getting Jiggy With The Flakes. It’s Snowing Here.

I’ve never intentionally tried to photograph snowflakes before.  I’ve photographed snow, of course, and I’ve snapped a few photos of some people who are flakes myself included.  😉

DSCN6757

But to take on the challenge of going outside with the sole purpose of photographing delicate little snowflakes as they fall from the sky is something new for me.

DSCN6738

I rather like these early morning artsy-artsy photos, even if they aren’t the most polished ones ever.

DSCN6751

For me the value in this challenge wasn’t perfection, but to remind myself to try new small things as I move forward through this year.  To step out into possibility.  And to get jiggy.

A Sunday Morning Winter Walk To Try My New Camera

This less-than-exciting post comes to you from the intersection of Cabin Fever Drive and New Camera Avenue.

DSCN6525

Because the sun was shining this morning, and ignoring the fact that it was 20ºF outside, I decided we needed to go for a walk somewhere unique.

DSCN6518

We drove to a city park and went for a short walk on a groomed path that runs beside abandoned railroad tracks.

DSCN6520

I wanted to take more photos, but after a 1/4 mile on the path we were cold.  Plus it wasn’t all that pretty out there.

DSCN6550

So we turned around, walked purposefully back to the car, and drove home. Because, you know– frozen!

A Poem In Which We Once Again Talk About Fuzzy The Squirrel

DSCN6250

The morning was beautiful, the sky was blue,

I glanced out the window for something to do.

DSCN6179

Neighbor Kitty, most calm, asleep in the leaves,

While above him there plotted three sciurine thieves.

DSCN6254

Their leader, a dickens, named Fuzzy by me,

Stared down upon Kitty, while perched in a tree.

DSCN6277

I feared for them all should trouble arise,

But Kitty kept sleeping, there was no surprise.

DSCN6177

The squirrels soon tired of barking at cat,

And decided to use the limb for a chat.

DSCN6271

The photo you see makes it look oh so dreamlike,

But I swear to you here, it truly was scheme-like.

DSCN6272

This post is now over, my rhyme will be ending,

But with Fuzzy’s approval, this poem I’m sending.
