In my addled brain, one thought leads to another.

I bought some new nail polish. It looks like this color.

I put the polish on my toenails and then put on a pair of leather sandals that are in this color.

The color combo reminded me of Claire Standish, played by Molly Ringwald, in The Breakfast Club.

When this movie came out, like every other girl of a certain age, I wanted to dress like Claire. Truth be known, I still kinda want to dress like Claire.

Do you realize that it was 1985 when this movie was released? This means that I’ve grooved on this stylish look and quoted what I believe to be two of the best movie lines ever… for 29 years. Oh my!

That first quote has been a guiding light for many years.
While not a pink wearing person, it’s smashing on the right person…(but we will not profess awareness of the movie date. La-la-la-la-la…is it “classic” or “vintage” yet?)

philmouse, I was surprised by how old the movie is. I always liked it, but hadn’t thought of it in awhile until I saw pink and brown feet. Then suddenly, I was back to coveting Claire’s outfit. Because I’m so grown-up and all.

I love that era of movies. This post makes me want to go watch 16 Candles. 🙂

Margaret, I do too. Those movies were light and funny with a kind of sweetness that is timeless. Guess that’s why I have remembered these quotes for so long.

I’ll admit that I found some of the writing to be a bit clunky. I don’t think people really say things like, “we’re all bizarre” or “Neomaxizoomdweebi”, but I did like the movie a lot, and I loved Claire’s clothes. I just never got why, after John treated her like crap for the first 1/2 of the movie, going so far as to put his face between her knees under the table, she would kiss him in the end. That never felt real to me. But still, good movie, good clothes.

J, you’re so right about the writing and the oddness of the movie. It’s not one of the all-time best movies ever; but when I first saw it, I was at an age that it made a big impression on me. Funny sometimes what we connect with– and what stays with us.

Funny how a post like this one, that is just plain nice, brings out the sweetness in people. Maybe that’s why so few ppl comment on my kindly posts, they don’t want to be perceived as sweet! Miss you, too.
