When it’s a glorious day outside and it comes to finding something to photograph, I’m nothing if not persistent.

•  PLAN A: HORSES  I drove to the horse vet wanting to photograph the horses that are usually standing around in his fields. However, when I got there not one horse was anywhere to be seen, so I kept driving.

•  PLAN B: HISTORY  I drove to a tiny 200-year-old village that, when photographed while standing on its bridge over the river, would make for an interesting photo.  However, when I got there the river was high, the sidewalks were muddy, and the wind was gusting.  Standing on the bridge didn’t seem safe to me, so I decided to go someplace else.

•  PLAN C: HAPPINESS  Dreamed up on the fly, I decided to drive to the canoe rental place and walk the bike path that runs by the canoe rental place, using the opportunity to photograph the blue sky above and whatever might be underneath it.  As the following four photos show, this plan worked.

  3. Blue skies are the best!

    The bicycle hanging out the window in the last shot got my attention. Then I noticed the profusion of tables and chairs set up for people to sit down and set a spell.

  4. Beautiful sky. I am longing for leaves on the trees and bushes. We are about a month out from that. Mix the green with the blue skies and it’s just perfect. Love that you caught color with those canoes and the flag. At this time of year, I’m screaming for color!

    • Kate, usually it’s gloomy or looks faded around here in March, but not this year. I agree with you that the mix of green leaves and blue sky is perfect, but we’re a few weeks away from that. In the mean time, I’ll photograph naked trees! 🙂

  5. I, too, am waiting for a break in our weather..and some return of bright colours outdoors. Your photos are a great reminder that Spring is not far away!!

  10. Great job; I love the canoes! I recently went out looking for a local tulip grower, my head full of those pictures we see of Holland with miles of rolling hills full of them. My reality was quite a bit different once I found the place! But I did get some nice shots of what I refer to as beautiful dilapidation – old falling-down barns and the like. And, one heron just kind of cruising the puddles along the sides of the road.

    • bnzoot, your photo shoot sounds lovely, even if it didn’t turn out to be what you expected it to be. I understand, having had to change my plans along the way yesterday. But at least we got some good photos eventually. 😉

  11. Plan C worked like a charm! I’m glad you persisted because when the muse calls, the camera must be ready to act regardless of hiding horses or muddy sidewalks.

    I love all the colours in each of the photos – 3 cheers for bright, blue skies! But my favourite is the last one with the bike and a yellow house!! LOVE yellow houses 🙂 Hope you’ll consider going back there when it’s bustling with activity.

    • Joanne, you said it about the muse calling. I was determined to find something of interest to photograph yesterday. I like those yellow houses, too– enhanced, of course, by the bright [unexpected] sunshine. Your suggestion about going back there when it’s canoeing season is a good one. What with the paddlers and the bikers it’ll be an endless, colorful photo shoot.

  12. Great photos! I can’t get over the bicycle on the house–or is it a store? Just that alone makes for an interesting writing prompt–what would possess someone to store a bike in such a place??

    • Kate, the house with the bike on it is a BBQ joint that is open seasonally. It’s almost directly on the bike path so everyone who rides by it sees the bicycle up there– and presumable stops for a photo and some food! It’s a clever tactic, eh?

  16. We are having a day like that here too! Although the sky isn’t quite that blue, it’s easily in the 80s out on our deck. I could get my camera and take some pictures, or I could just sit here and enjoy myself… I’m glad you got out with your camera – I love the colors you captured.

    • Janis, it’s unusual for us to have clear blue skies around here, more so in the Spring. I love knowing that it’s warm where you are and that you can be outside under the blue sky. It gives me hope… considering snow + grayness are predicted here for the weekend. *sigh*

    • Janet, I hadn’t thought of it like that. Good point. The colors of the stuff along the bike path are much more interesting than a bunch of mostly brown horses standing in a field.

  19. Looks like we both had the same idea yesterday, only I chose to head to the park to add to my squirrel photo collection. Often on my days off, I rarely even notice if it’s a beautiful day or not, but yesterday morning I did and forced myself to take advantage (The fact that I broke the scale at the doctor’s office Wednesday may have helped get me outside too)….

    • evilsquirrel13, the weather has been sunny and the humidity has been low. Not the usual, but outside with a camera seemed like a good idea. Glad that you got a chance to be outside, too. Looking forward to more of your squirrel pics!
