  1. We give to our local Heartbeats Center, The Salvation Army, and our church, just to name a few. There are so many needs out there. Wish we could help them all. . .I have never heard of Giving Tuesday. Thanks for the info.

    1. I learned of this new event while I was reading some news article somewhere online. I like the idea of one specific day where everyone takes at least a moment to think about how they can help other people.

I agree that there are so many needs out there, sadly. Maybe this event will help fill the needs. It seems like an idea whose time has come.

  2. I’m volunteering at our food bank, as I do every Tuesday. We also give to our church each week and I give to St Jude’s every year.
Also, there are several older, lonely women in our neighborhood and I’ve been thinking about inviting them all together to our house for tea and sweets sometime. Maybe I just need to set a date today and do it!

    1. Beth, I think that for some of us we are already in the habit of giving, but for other people it is a weird idea. I love that this organization wants the whole world to think about giving to others on one specific day each year.

I chose our activity because I thought that it would be easy to remember to do every November 27. The link to the list of suggestions is really interesting. I think that inviting the oldsters over tea would be one that should go on the list.

        1. Zen-Den, You know, I haven’t made macaroons for many years now! Maybe I’ll look that recipe up and make them–they are very easy. You will never live that day down:)

  3. Never thought about doing it one particular day. I grew up where we cleaned out books and toys and clothes at least a couple times per year and donated to local charities. I kind of like this idea, though, because like you said – some people aren’t in the habit of giving and they throw away good things that other people could use. I need to find where around here I can donate old cell phones.

    1. Zazzy, me either. That’s why I liked this idea so much. Like you we are forever giving stuff to Goodwill or the Salvation Army or the Vietnam Vets– and I’m sure that we’ll continue to do that.

But the idea of putting this concept into the national psyche as a counterbalance to the greed of Black Friday & Cyber Monday is genius. I’m all in.

  4. Love it. 🙂 Specifically, one of my favorite organizations called yesterday and asked for a donation. Times are lean around here, so generally I say no. But in honor of today, I donated. I am going to give blood, though probably not today (it’s a work day). I’ll do it Saturday. There are things I always do, like deliver Meals on Wheels once a week, and my monthly contributions to my favorite charities, donate food to a local Thanksgiving Basket Brigade, but I wanted to mindfully do something specific for this event. 🙂
