QOTD: What Are Your Dreams For This Spring?

DSCN4911Always looking forward.  Always planning.  Influenced by Arrowsmith Aerosmith.  I’m rarely without a list of what I need to do next.

Usually my lists revolve around practical matters, but occasionally I make a personal list of a few simple things that I want to accomplish.  So without further babble, I give you…

My “Dreams For Spring” List

I want to go for a walk almost every day.  There will be no numerical goals attached to this walk, I just want to move more.  Rain be damned.

I want to bake muffins.  The reality here is that for months I’ve said that I’m going to start baking again– then I haven’t done so. However, now that it’s on my list, let muffin-palooza begin.

I want to travel somewhere.  While this may seem vague, I’ve learned that when I talk about a specific vacation, the gods start screwing around with my life.  So mum’s the word.  I’m going to sneak travel by them this time.  You just watch and see.

I want to work in the garden.  Last year I was lazy about gardening because– well, I haven’t a clue why I was, but I was.  This year I’m planning some new features out there– and some new color schemes.  Nothing like a design project to ramp up my interest and keep me enthused.

  1. How did your spell-check respond to “muffin-palooza.” Easy for me to say that my goal is to make your goals happen, but my goal is to feel better (in part by walking more as well) and PLANNING VACATIONS!!!!

    • Zen-Den, how did I do it? I’m a cool bean who can wrangle a spell-check into doing what I want it to do! That’s how!

I like your goals, which I would call dreams, and can see that they work in my favor. Nice answer. You will be cheered on. 😉

  2. Oh, lovely! A Spring Wish List.

I have a basic muffin recipe for you if you’d like. Let me know, but I’m betting you have one already.

When you said “Arrowsmith”, I wracked my brain trying to think of what wish list there was in the Sinclair Lewis novel. Then I started thinking, “Hm. I would probably do well to read it again anyway.” So, thank you for that!

My Wish List right now is short: spend as much time at the lake as possible. Everything else falls under that. Cannot wait!

    • nance, I have a basic muffin recipe from my mother’s 1950-something Betty Crocker cookbook. Tried and true, but not used in way too long.

Thanks for the heads up. I didn’t catch my spelling mistake. I could swear that I wrote the correct A— smith, but maybe not. Or, perhaps that sneaky spell-check is getting back at me for making it take muffin-palooza!

      • I thought you were talking about the band – after all, who would not think of “Dream On” based on the topic?

        • Well, Zen-Den, here’s the thing. My misspelling lent itself to 2 interpretations of what I might be talking about. The one I meant is the one that you got.

But for us English majors, putting the title of a novel in the first paragraph lent itself to something different– you know, looking for the symbolism and implied meaning of what I was going to say based on that novel.

Nance was looking deep, when I was talking shallow. It’s a curse that all English majors live with every day.

  3. My dream for spring is to continue my efforts to de-clutter everything :-). Specifically the garage, my VHS (don’t laugh) and cassette tape collections (seriously, I’m a child of the 70’s, VHS and cassette tapes ruled!), and my mid-section, lol. That has seriously become “cluttered” in the last year or so. 😉 —was trying to find someway to cleverly tie in my “muffin top” with your “muffin-palooza” but alas, I’m not that clever :-).

    • Satin Sheet Diva, decluttering is an ongoing event here a Chez Bean so I understand where you’re coming from. Honestly, I’m impressed that you have any VHS & cassette tapes. Ours didn’t make it with us on our last move, 15 years ago. Love the idea of a muffin top being connected to muffin-palooza… because I suspect that might be exactly what’s in store for me should I get into the baking habit again!

  4. Well, I’ve already accomplished one goal of my spring to-do list. And that was to pick up all the sticks in our yard (and believe me, that was A LOT of sticks and limbs!!), and trim the rose bushes. I also want to get out to the studio more, get a new bike—and ride it (!), and take weekend trips to the beach or the mountains. Can’t wait!
Good luck with your muffin making. Sounds great!

    • Beth, I picked up a few sticks out of the yard over the weekend, but it was a COLD undertaking. Will save all of that for later. Hope that you make it back out into your studio soon. That sounds like a perfect Spring Dream to me! If any of the muffins are spectacular, I’ll send you the recipe.

    • knottedfingers, I have no doubt that if you dress like Miss Frizzle while walking around outside, then you’ll be happier! How could that not happen? What wonderful dreams you have. Consider yourself cheered on from afar.

  6. Such an inspiring post, Ally. We have very similar goals for spring. I want to take the dogs an early morning walk before I get ready for work. (It has to get a little warmer for me to walk at 6 a.m.) and I want to garden. My yard has been neglected for so long – I am ready to tackle it this spring. Here’s to hoping we both succeed!

    • Cheri, great minds work in the same ways! I suspect that every Ohioan wants to be outside doing something this Spring– walking, gardening, eating muffins?! We’re not a fussy folk, just a little dazed after this late, intense winter. Best of luck with your dreams. I’m rooting for you [us?].

  7. I would like to plant pretty flowers, have lots of coffee dates and read many good books. And skype with my kids who will be on different continents from me.

  8. While I am certainly looking forward to slightly warmer weather… I just realized this morning it will probably only be a couple of weeks before I have to dredge out the stupid lawnmower again. Every silver lining has a dark cloud…

    Like

    • evilsquirrel13, our lawnmower was serviced a few weeks ago, and now sits menacingly in our garage waiting for THAT day when the mowing begins again. I’m trying to ignore it by dreaming of Spring things that I want to do. But you make a good point…

  9. Remember old fashion Bran muffins? We rarely had them – first mom hated cooking and worked, but she also had to remember to buy that small box of bran (which looked like a box of teeny tiny little logs…nobody would eat them for morning cereal and she’s not making muffins all the time and it’s a sin to waste food)
Voting yes for this list…except maybe the muffins…Costco has some really good ones that freeze well and are so big you can cut them in half.
Road trip! (Desperately need one of those)

    • philmouse, I remember bran muffins quite well. My mother’s recipe was a make-ahead one. You mixed the batter… then put it in the frig for up to 6 weeks! The idea being that you could bake fresh hot bran muffins any time that you wanted them. The muffins were, to be polite, heavy and intense… and dreaded by little me.

  10. Great dreams for the spring. I’d like to get back to my daily workouts and take more hikes again once this snow melts. 🙂

    Like

    • Kourtney, our snow has melted but it’s still cold outside, the kind of cold that is wet and dreary. I wish that I had your discipline to do daily workouts, but until I do I’ll settle for a few more walks around the neighborhood each week. ‘Ya know?
