Okie-dokie, artichokie
… is a slang phrase that I’m guessing everyone has heard, read, or said. It’s one of those goofy ways to communicate agreement without committing to too much interest.
I use the phrase from time-to-time because there are moments when it is appropriate.
For instance, when your husband is telling you a detailed analysis of his current sock situation, and you would prefer that he get to the bottom line of this sock soliloquy, because if he wants you to buy him some more socks, just say so.
But there he is staring into his sock drawer, reflecting upon his hole-y, muddled mess-o-socks, while you stand by patiently, not caring at all about the finer nuances of his sock preferences, but pretending that it matters to you.
That’s when a wise woman says “okie-dokie, artichokie,” then goes to Kohl’s and buys him whatever socks are on sale that day.

{ SOMETHING TO DO FOR FUN }
Take the Can You Identify These Vegetables? Quiz. Helpful hint: the first answer is artichoke.

ok – I’m laughing. It’s such a relief to know I’m not the only one who rolls their eyes and just wishes HE. WOULD. GET. TO. THE. POINT. 😀
You can be sure I’ll be thinking “okie-dokie, artichokie”

joanne, I love the guy, but sometimes his lawyer-ness comes out in the wordiest ways. And it was just socks, people! You gotta wonder… 😉

I’m seeing the problem. Oh yes, lawyers do like to talk 🙂

What is it with some Men And Socks? Rick is picky, but will then wear his to shreds if I don’t intervene. And I do NOT mend socks. Out they go once they have a significant hole. And its mate becomes a dustrag (especially good for ceiling fan blades).
RE: the vegetable quiz. I only missed two, the two I had never before heard of (or seen!) in my entire life. I wonder if they are real veg, or if someone cross-bred something quite by accident!
Also, do you think there is a variety of Artichoke actually called the Okey Dokey Artichoke? How fun would that be!?

nance, I cannot explain men and their socks, but I’ve heard quite a few women talk about this quirky behavior. Must have something to do with that Y chromosome.
I didn’t know one of those vegetables on the quiz. What the heck is celeriac? If that’s in Kroger, I’ve not seen it. Of course, I have a difficult enough time finding the celery…
You ask a good question about artichoke variety names. Beats me. I only plant herbs and little tomatoes!

Nicola, glad to introduce you to something new. It’s a silly thing to say, but I say it anyhow. Happy weekend to you, too.

Last fall, my husband became one of those people who wanted to wear his favorite socks 99% of the time, and he was constantly asking me, “Are my tan socks clean? The ones with the little squares?” and it reminded me very much of how the children obsess over woobies and hoodies… Like I am washing these precious things nightly… So I had to have a detailed conversation about exactly what equality made the socks so desirable. So that I could go to Kohl’s and buy more of those kinds of socks.

joey, another man with specific sock requirements! I gotta wonder whether sock manufacturers have put crazy ideas into the susceptible minds of males OR if socks just naturally bring out the fussy/goofy in men? 0.o

Oh my! At first I read stocks instead of socks! Socks made more sense:) I use the phrase “okie dokie artichoke” a lot. Hmmmm…wonder what that says about me. Looking forward to your next post!

Beth, made me laugh on that one! Big difference stocks v socks. I use that phrase, too. Kind of goofy, but seems to be the appropriate response many a time.

I am sooo sorry I missed your first food fun a-z post. I like it, and artichokes. They’re yummy. It’s funny that I say the same to my husband when he wants to buy fishing tackle. 💜

bitsfromheaven, I like artichokes, too. I rarely eat them because they’re so pricey, but when I do… YUM! Fishing tackle, you say? Same thing as socks in my mind. By all means sayokie-dokie, artichoke when he starts talking about tackle!

I had never heard okey dokey artichokey! I now plan to work it into conversation as much as possible. My dad had a thing for peacock blue socks that matched exactly nothing that he wore. He wore them with black pants and brown pants and hideously mis-matched plaid pants.
I missed one on your quiz and guessed one right. Cabbages are just too many to know.

Zazzy, peacock blue socks!!! Oy vey. Thank goodness Z-D doesn’t have any of those. He’s more of a black/navy/khaki/white sock guy. Stumped by the cabbages, but you’d heard of celeriac? I’m impressed that you knew that one.

I’ve never heard that saying before! I do love artichokes though, especially in dip. 🙂

Margaret, I’m beginning to wonder if that saying is midwestern/southern in its usage. It’s a dopey thing to say, but sometimes…

Thank you, Ally! Now I know what to say in response certain long-winded, spousal ramblings! (Too be fair, I probably give him more cause than he does me…but I’m ok with ignoring that little truth.) 😉

Nancy, this is the best way to show that you care when in reality you might not! Keeps the peace. And by all means ignore any little marital truth that reflects on you badly. No need to dwell on such things! 😉

I’ve never heard that saying . . . which must mean that when I’m talking about socks I never get long-winded!
BTW: This post never appeared in my reader. But your Banana post did. Odd.
