“Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch, you know that I love you. I can’t help myself, ‘cuz I love you and nobody else.”
• These are the lyrics of a classic Motown song by the Four Tops, who have sung this song for decades. This song mentions sugar, but we do not know if that sugar is XXXX [powdered] or granulated.
Now do we?
• This means that for purposes of this A To Z Challenge, which never seems to end, I believe that the sugar mentioned in the above quote is of a fancy XXXX powdered variety, and not merely your everyday granulated sugar.
It could be true.
• So please, my gentle readers, indulge me as I snap my finger and wink my eye, sharing, what I’m going to say is, a perfectly acceptable post regarding the letter “X.”
Top that, people!
I’ll see your sugar and raise you a sugar, sugar!

This is wonderful! I haven’t heard, or seen, this in decades. Thanks. What a fun contribution to this ridiculously difficult letter “X” which I’m stuck writing about today.

Always love a little Four Tops first thing in the morning.
I’m trying to cut back on my sugar intake, which is already slight, by using less in my morning coffee. I really do like sweet coffee with generous half-n-half, but I have reached a point where I have to ask, “Is this Coffee or is it Cream and Sugar?” Artificial sweeteners are a Big No, thanks to migraine.
Anyway, as anyone will tell you, Sugar Is Sugar, so it doesn’t really matter if I would use real maple syrup, honey, agave, or Sugar. I am Cutting Back, period.
(All this Self-Denial is making me feel like a monk.)

nance, I’ve been singing along to this song since I first found it to put it into this post. It’s a catchy tune which I’ve decided works for this letter.
I don’t do any artificial sweeteners either. I use sugar or not. Fortunately I like my coffee black or with a bit of milk, but I admire your monk-like self-denial when facing your mornings a little less sweetly. 🙂

Artificial sweeteners give me migraines too, so I nixed them. But oh, how I love a sweet, creamy coffee!
More music! lol

“Me too” to all that you said. Feeling a sudden need for a cup of coffee with cream…

That’s exxxxtra sweet. You think you have it bad? I had to come up with X blogs for my science theme and an extra one for a speculative fiction blog. I made the show The X-Files pull double duty. You can see them at http://www.tamaranarayan.com and parallelsanthology.blogspot.com
Two more days. Two more days.

Tamara, the X-Files is a good choice for this letter. I enjoy seeing how everyone does the letter “X.” So far, I’ve been eXtremely impressed.

X is the worst. I don’t know if I can manage a fourth year of A-Z in April.
Groovy tune 🙂

How did you know I love this sweet catchy tune? It’s my go to when gardening or mowing. Oh those were the days…when music was truly tops and each tune was pure sugar.

Allie P, it’s not a bad tune really. A classic, and if you do the slick moves with it, you’ll be exercising. Very healthy. 🙂

Three days from the end (long after exhaustion with the challenge has set in) and they throw us a letter like “X”? I am pretty sure you can do whatever you want at this point and get away with it.

Sarah, that’s my philosophy. Any “X” you can think of is a good “X” to write about. Keep it simple.

Well, you definitely get points for ingenuity! You have two more letters to go. You can do it! Probably!

I.L. Wolf, I’m good to go for the last two letters. AND following the challenge suggestions, I have a “reflections” post in mind for next week.

joanne, just make something up and throw it out there! Say it’s an “X” and no one will care if it is or not. We challenge participants are a lenient lot. 🙂

Well, I’ve never heard of XXXX sugar so I had to google it first. I knew icing sugar (as we call it) was called powered in America but XXXX sounded more like a specialist movie than a sweet treat…

Barbed Words, XXXX sugar is an old-fashioned way to refer to powdered sugar. I don’t say it, but it fit into my theme so I used it. Desperate letters call for desperate measures.

I was thinking of flour in bagged marked “XXXX”, but maybe it was sugar… and heck, I only remember it from cartoons anyway. There are a ton of great sugar songs, but not many about flour… not even from the flour power days of the 60’s…
