WHERE I’VE BEEN:

Who doesn’t like a visual representation about some aspect of their life?

To wit, in my online gadding about I came across a way to easily make a snazzy map of where you’ve travelled and/or lived in the US and territories. Thus I applied myself to the task, did as instructed, and created the above image.

As you can see I’ve been to 35 states + DC.  Based on the points tallied, I am on Level 137.  How that compares to anyone else I cannot say because I have no frame of reference, I just know that’s my level.

WHERE I WON’T BE THIS DECEMBER:

I’m bugging out of blogland for the month of December.

It’s been a busy year for me here at The Spectacled Bean, writing longer than usual posts and managing, what I think of as, comment-palooza. I figure there’s no need to force myself to do something that is, for the most part, fun and is completely voluntary.

So I’m taking a break.

I will be popping into Instagram [HERE] and Threads [HERE] so I’ll be around social media a little bit, not entirely off the grid, but for the most part I’ll be laying low like the introvert I am during a hectic time of year.

You understand.

• So, my little gallivanters, how many US states and territories have you visited or lived in? If you made your own snazzy map using the link, what is your level?

• Having blogged since the days of dinosaurs, I know that it’s easy to find reasons to not keep a blog, BUT it is more difficult to find a reason to put yourself out there and keep a blog going. If you have a personal blog, what is your reason for writing it?

• What are you looking forward to doing, or not doing, in December?

  1. Enjoy your blog holiday! My blog was supposed to be a “business” blog full of Human Resource stories. I found that the best stories couldn’t be written then (I could now — enough time has passed that no one would remember) so I ended up doing a humor, old person, cat blog. Essentially, whatever moves me as long as it’s not too serious!

    • Kate, I understand why the best HR stories couldn’t be written. No need to be accused of libel! But what you’ve decided to do instead is wonderful. I feel like we all morph into the bloggers we need to be IF we want to keep going longterm.

      • Thanks, I hope I get to visit a few more. We lived near the border in Alberta and later in Vancouver so we zipped across many times. I also have a dear aunt in Arizona who I love to visit. My favourite state I’ve visited is New Mexico.

        • I’ve been to New Mexico a few times and it has a charm all its own. We were there around Christmas one time and it was magical, with great food and drink as I recall. I’ve been to Arizona once, it was too hot for me.

  3. I got a 117 and I have visited 27 states and DC and lived in 3 states! Mine is a personal blog and as I reach my middle age (don’t ask me how old I am) I think this is a perfect outlet for me! Happy Holidays and Enjoy your break!

  4. I understand why you would want to take a break given the comment-palooza, yes. I have visited quite a few states and have lived in one – Arizona – when I was in flight school. Mine is a personal blog (also since dinos were roaming) mainly about photography. I like connecting with others of my vintage who also like photography (and other things, too).     • Lynette, the thing is that I enjoy all the comments because it is fun to see what makes people tick; but being the conscientious person I am I’m very attentive to the comments, which takes a lot of my time. 🫤

      I’ve visited Arizona once, too hot and dry for me. And so dang flat, no wonder you went there for flight school.

      I understand your reason for blogging and enjoy your photos, always interesting and in focus. I hope you keep on blogging for a long time to come, my fellow dinosaur.

  6. Only 10 states + DC for me – that’s visited, ‘cos I’ve never lived in the US.

    I started blogging because I wanted to write, and discovered the pleasures of connection later. Now both are as important as the other.

    You beat me to breaking for Christmas by one week 😉 I’m looking forward to the absence of a couple of things in December – the first being not dealing with my mother’s apartment sale anymore as it completes on the 4th. Also looking forward to the freeze on change protocols that my day job clients have over the festive period. I am desperate for a break from them, as they’ve been pretty darn demanding this year which has been tough on my coaching business. Plenty of things to take up the slack on my time, as ever.

      Your reason for blogging resonates with me. I started in 2004 [!] to see if I could write casually, get away from academic or business writing. I eventually lightened up my writing style and in the process made some lovely sincere connections.

      You’ve got a lot going on in your real life right now, this year. I’m sure you deserve a break from all things bloggy. Like I say: live first, blog later.

  8. 162 for me. Having lived in eight states definitely helps push that number so high.

    I blog because I feel a compulsion to write and share and entertain, and also, my blog serves as a scrapbook of my life.

  10. I scored 135. Interesting exercise. 🙂 These days I blog because of the community. I thoroughly enjoy interacting through comments, and I usually learn something from the posts I read. I put the snow stakes in on Monday, and that gives you a clue as to what I’m not looking forward to in December. I am looking forward to heading south at the end of the month so that kind of balances it out. I hope you have a lovely holiday and enjoy your break, and we’ll all look forward to seeing you in January.

  11. I’ve been to 27 states and the District. I’m lacking New England and the Southwest, and Hawaii. I still feel like I have some time to get there.

    A long time ago, my blog was trading on BlogShares, a fantasy stock market for blogs. Back then, it was termed a “cultural commentary”, so let’s go with that. I originally started it (in 2005 when I was still teaching) to Practice What I Preach, that writers write. Every so often, I feel like giving it up, but then I get a bit of a spark and give it another shot.

    • nance, I was on BlogShares! Dear lord, I hadn’t thought about that place in years. You were cultural commentary? I started my first blog in 2004 but I couldn’t tell you how I was classified there. So long ago. I like your reason for writing your blog, of course.

      One good thing about going to New England is that it’s all so close together you can hit many states in one day. Just saying if you want to easily up your total.

  12. Cool map! I’ve been to most of the states, but not Oregon or Washington. I plan on getting there someday! Maybe I should plan that to be sooner rather than later. December? Well…we’re not traveling so I will have to find fun stuff to do around here. Not so much a problem. Still…I’m a traveling sort of girl, and I am missing it. We hope to go to Alabama in February. We’ll see. We’ve been saying that for a couple years now. Enjoy your December off! We will be here when you come back!

    • Dawn, I’d like to go to Oregon, too. And a lot of those northern states that border Canada that seem so remote to me. As you said, “We’ll see.” I hope your travel plans to Alabama happen in a way that you like. In February it’ll be lovely and warm there which has a definite appeal.   13. I’ve never lived in the States but I have passed through 28 of them (if not more), and of those, stayed in 13-14 of them.
    You deserve a wonderful blog break. I’ve been at it – but never on any schedule or with any regularity since 2012. I disappear for awhile, come back, go with gusto, write only one per week or less. It has to be enjoyable, I saw. And like you, but on a lesser quantity, the comment-palooza can be quite time-consuming – which I do with joy, to be honest.
    In December, I shall be rather happy to not be working between Christmas and New Year’s. I shall be enjoying the cooking, the fêting (partying) and the relaxing, methinks. Maybe, just maybe, I’ll be able to reach my goal of 24 books! I’m still 6 shy…

    • Dale, you’ve seen and experienced a lot of the US. I suspect there are people born here who’ve seen less.

      I like your approach to blogging, do it on your own timetable, your own way. I agree that I enjoy all the comments here, but I also know that I can’t turn my back on them lest I be swept under. So I have to plan my blogging time accordingly.

      Your December plans between Christmas and NY sound perfect to me. I like to do all that you’ve got going on, also. I’d especially like to read a few books uninterrupted [in the sense of adult obligations], too.

      • I drove across Canada twice, and once drove back through the northern States (so that took care of a bunch – I even stopped and stayed over night at a few). I also drove down to Florida a couple of times, stopping along the way. But I suspect you are right. Just like a lot of Canadians have never left their province.

        I just am not a schedule-type person and I could never blog daily. Good gawd! I can’t turn my back on comments and I just hate when I realise I missed one. I usually go back after a week or so and go down, just to make sure.

        They will be. An office party December 8, a Christmas Even party at one sisters, Christmas breakfast at mine, Christmas supper at the other sister’s are the only things planned. The rest is open! (Or closed, depending on how you look at it 😉 )

        • Dale, I can see how you managed to see so much of the northern states. That makes sense. I’ve been to Ontario, Quebec, and Alberta. Would like to see more of Canada.

          I could never post daily either. For one thing what would I talk about? And for another thing I don’t want to be here THAT much. I doublecheck that I’ve replied to all comments, too– and feel awful when I miss one. But it happens.

            Right? Some people keep it short, some not so much. How the hell do the multi-posters do? Good gawd. 2-3-4-5+ posts per day? Mind you, the comment sections for these peeps are rather short, with good reason.

  14. Since they include Passed (if I was driving) Here – I click off 42. I’ve lived in six, and stayed in a lot for business. For a score of 159.

    I’ve been writing a blog since 2009, and I still enjoy writing, sharing stories and photos and meeting new people. The day that stops, I will, too.

    Since I’ve only been retired for four years, I’m still savoring the fact that I’m not involved in “Year-End.”

  15. I am 150. The upper midwest needs some attention from me, apparently! My blog exists because I like to tell stories. Especially funny ones. And unlike in publishing or entertainment, those stories are strictly mine, told the way I wanted to tell them. My own, my precious, LOL.

The connections came much after the words, and I enjoy that part very much now. Totally get why your comment extravaganzas are consuming and always find it interesting the level of response you get.       I enjoy the comments on this blog and appreciate them all, but replying to them all does take time. I plan my days accordingly so I can be attentive, but it’s an aspect of personal blogging I didn’t foresee.

I’ve never been to ND, OK, AR, or AL and none of them even earned a “want to be here” ha. Enjoy your away time! You’ll be back in this space before you know it.

    • Dave, I was the same way when I created my map. I thought I had all the states properly categorized, did a screen save, looked at my map then realized “I’ve been to Nevada” so I revised my map.

  20. My level is 144. I haven’t been to seven states or any of the territories. That being said, as I get older, I hate traveling more and more, so I don’t know if I’ll ever get more. LOL.

    I think taking a break off blogging in December is a great idea! You’ll come back nice and refreshed and full of ideas in the new year. I hope it’s a great blogging vacation.

    • NGS, I’ve never been to any of the territories either and like you I don’t like travel anymore, so they may remain unvisited. The contiguous states might be more doable by car. I dunno.

  21. What a cool project. (Going to forward it to older brother who needs something brain teasing to do this time of year and who has traveled here and abroad a lot – he’ll love this!)
    Funny I was thinking about you during walk yesterday – knowing it’s about blog on pause time for Dec for so many – happy I caught you as you were setting things on autopilot for the holidays. For multiple reasons, my postings this past year have been sporadic and rather brain scattered. I write when there’s time and energy – or when something weird has caught my eye and I want to say “Hey, look at this. Whatcha think?”…which I am known for with kids in the neighborhood who probably think I was a science teacher once- not so, but interested in natural things that surprise those too busy to notice – besides seems like many are so weary they can hardly see much at all – and whose to point out stuff to the kids coming up if parents don’t. Got to form the habit of noticing things and forming a relationship – a connection with nature and the world early – or all the blah, blah, yada, yada in schools colleges won’t mean anything – with no hope for the environment, climate, habitat, or getting along with anything in the future. So there’s all that if it explains anything HAHA

      I’m laughing about how you know me so well. I often bug out of blogland in December because people are busy and I am busy and it seems best for me to not get too overwhelmed by it all. Also, it’s been a long year of blogging for me. I need a refresh.

      I agree with you that forming the habit of noticing things and of knowing how to form relationships are life skills that can only help kids become better adults… and adults become better adults, for that matter. I enjoy your “Hey, look at this. Whatcha think?”posts because they’re random and in the moment which in my estimation is what a personal blog should be about.

  22. I’m at 167. My dad was a fan of the road trip. Throughout my life, we travelled the lower 48 and flew to Hawaii. Alaska was my 50th state, and I was too young to remember much of New England. The only territory I’ve visited is The Virgin Islands.

    Enjoy your blogging break, Ally! I took off during March and April and often wonder why I blog. I know why I started. I’m not sure why I continue. Hmm. Good question.

      I’ve put my all into blogging this year because I wanted to and because of all the exterior projects I was at home seemingly all the time, thus I blogged. If you figure out your “why,” it’s easier to keep going. But a “why” can change, oh yes it can.

  23. My map would not be as colorful as yours Ally Bean and the activity would be confined mostly to the west for sure. I see both OR and CO are on your list- both lovely spots to visit if you have the opportunity.

    I ask myself often why I keep the blog. My answer is that I still find, at odd times and for very little reason, I still have a few things I want to say. Even if I stop writing in the future I won’t stop reading others blogs, unless I am incapable.

    Hmm, December plans? Hoping for a small sprinkling of snow, the annual puzzle roundup that I enjoy when the newest boxes come, reading my new find- #1 in a series of Gothic Victorian Christmas Ghost Stories, keeping one blog and letting the 2nd go after my foray into heartfelt but not-really-me writing, wearing flannel everyday. That’s about all I can think of 🙂

    • Deb, I want to see Oregon and Colorado and they’re highest priority for our future travels. It’d be interesting to see Alaska, but that seems more of a pipe dream to me.

      I feel the same way as you about blogging. As long as I have something to say and enjoy writing about it, I’ll continue… but if it ever becomes a burden I’m toast. Although you make a good point about still reading what other people write. I’d still do that.

      • Colorado is so diverse in environment so go there first! Oregon is much like WA but I like their coastline better than ours!

        There are 13 stories in this first volume so 1 to read every other night or so. I thought it would be fun and different from the traditional Christmas stuff and there are 6…maybe 8 in the series so if I like the whole idea that gives me a few years worth of “special” holiday reading material :

        2nd blog is heading in some really interesting directions with more to come in the new year from leadership but I sort of anticipated this would be a 1 year and done for me. Great fun and challenging- thankful I took on the task.

        • Z-D has been to Colorado for work and he enjoyed it. I know he’d be thrilled to go back as a tourist. He’s also been to Oregon for work, but not sure he’s got much of an opinion about it.

    I started blogging when I took a class about “promoting your art business,” and a website with a blog was highly recommended. But I soon realized that I didn’t want to run an art business; I just wanted to have fun making stuff and then writing about it. I enjoy writing, and it helps me maintain, or at least not lose, my typing and grammar skills. I love the blogging community!

      Stayed = slept there overnight
      Visited = went there to see a specific sight but didn’t spend the night
      Stopped = went through the state on your way to elsewhere and didn’t spend the night

  33. Enjoy the break. As a Canadian, I will pass on the map, although I have visited a few states as well as seven of nine Canadian provinces. The introvert in my prefers to stay put these days. As far as blogging goes, I seem to have less to say than when I started so I tossed any notion of a schedule and blog when I get inspired.

    • Jenn, I’ve been to three Canadian provinces, Ontario, Quebec, and Alberta. I relate to your introvert wanting to stay home. I’m not keen on traveling like I once was. I also understand having less to say on a blog than I once did. I still try to show up every other Tuesday at a minimum, but some weeks that seems like too much.

  35. Fun map game. I’m not great at blogging, though I always mean well. When I have something I truly truly must share with my BBBs, I’ll make a point to. To wit, as you would say, it would make sense to share about our T-Day trip to Sequoia National Park… But will I get around to it? Questionable. Too much life happening to be able to prioritize blogging, but maybe some day. :/

  36. Well done Ally. I scored 107. Been around a bit. Being in the military helped a lot. I didn’t surf the site, yet, but if there is a world map, it would would be interesting to see how I score there. I traveled a lot in Europe and a few other places. Christmas this year will be about creating new traditions. Loss of parents, a couple of marriages and a move have put our combined families closer together.

  42. 98 for me. I’ve stayed many places but there is a stripe down the Midwest where I’ve never been; most of the south and New England are also blank. Honestly, many of those places are likely to remain that way.

    • Margaret, 98 is a respectable level. I know that I feel similarly about seeing the upper plains states. I may get to them, but probably not. One thing about visiting New England the states are small and you can see a few in one day’s drive. The midwest and the south are not like that.

  48. I’m afraid my map would be kind of boring since I’ve only lived in California. I don’t know what the difference is between “visited here” or “stayed here.” I’ve been to Alaska and Oregon multiple times for weeks at a time but I was just visiting. I’ve also been to Nevada many times but that for sure was just visiting. Is there a color for “Would never in a million years live here?” Hope you and your hubby have a magnificent Christmas and we’ll “see” you next year!

    • Janet, here’s how I decided to define these terms:

      Stayed = slept there overnight
      Visited = went there to see a specific sight but didn’t spend the night
      Stopped = went through the state on your way to elsewhere and didn’t spend the night

      Don’t know that it’s going to change your take on where you’ve been, but the map quiz dealio was a little “light” on specifics for its terms.

      It does seem like a category of “Would never in a million years live here” could be interesting. Not that it’s wrong for other people to live in some of these states, but there are places that are not for me.

  49. Ally, So far I’ve visited and stayed in 17 states and DC. I didn’t count states that I passed by although that would up the number a lot more (e.g traveling from Ontario in Canada to California, I passed many states). Blogging is a fun hobby for me. I can write and share pictures without accumulating hard copies of journals and photos. Have a wonderful holiday! See you in 2024.

    • ren, I’m not keen on traveling anymore but when I was younger I enjoyed it. Also lots of states I’ve visited have been because my husband went there for work so I popped in on the weekends.   52. the graph was cool. I got a 127. My kids are moving to the Seattle area though so I’ll have a higher score next year! I’ve been at a pause level with blogging. I’m not sure why. I just don’t have much to say any more. Plus I need to establish a routine and I’ve been having trouble with that. I think I will have to make it a resolution.   53. Thanks to a job where I traveled and my days in a pipe band, I scored 171. Have not been to Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Wyoming, Alaska,Maine, New Hampshire or Vermont, and given my infirmities probably won’t get there.

    I mostly blog for shits and giggles, as they say. When I started it, I had fantasies about becoming a big time fiction writer, then I realized I don’t actually read that much of it, so it’s devolved into mostly me building playlists and talking music.

I assume because I’ve only lived in one state. And now I’m interested in where and why you lived in PA and FL? Out of the 15 remaining states, I’m most interested in visiting WA and OR.

  57. I really like that map. I keep track of the states I’ve been to (only four to go: North Dakota, Minnesota, West Virginia, and Rhode Island) but I haven’t distinguished between visiting vs. passing through.

    I blog because I love to write and because of the wonderful people I’ve connected with over the years. Leaving blogland would feel like moving to a foreign country with no form of communication. I’d miss my friends and my voice.

    • Janis, I thought the map presented a balanced interesting look at where a person has been. Of the four states you haven’t been to I’ve been to Minnesota and WV, both were pretty and I’d go back again. North Dakota and Rhode Island don’t call to me.

      I agree with you about how leaving blogland would seem odd. I enjoy this means of communication and I adore the friendships that have developed over the years. That was unexpected.

  60. Enjoy your bloggy break, my friend! I totally understand. Sometimes you just need to step away to become refreshed/ do other things! If I’m being honest – and when am I not, really – I have exhausted myself trying to keep up with all my friends doing NaBloPoMo. It’s been a lot this month and I think next year I am going to put some rules in place for myself so I don’t constantly feel bad for missing posts. After all, it’s supposed to be fun, there’s no law a person has to read and comment on every single thing. There’s just a law in my head, I guess, and I’m *cue music* breaking the law, breaking the law.

    Now as to your questions. I love blogging! I love the writing and creative aspect AND I love the community. I have met, both in person and online, so many wonderful women. And like two men. Ha! But truly, I love blogging very much. I don’t think I will ever do NaBloPoMo myself because it’s that thing where if you HAVE to do it (I know, you don’t have to, but bear with me) it becomes less fun. You know?

    Where in the States have I been. Well, I’ve visited Hawaii, California, Montana, Washington, Nevada, Illinois, New York, and Florida. I’ve driven through but only spent one night in Oregon, Idaho, and Utah. I’ve done a day trip to, of all places, North Dakota and I spent an 8-hour stopover in Minneapolis. There is a lot I’d like to see and revisit! We have a trip to Vegas planned in March of next year, the last time we were there was June 2015, so I’m looking forward to seeing it again, see how it’s changed, see a show, maybe even dip in the pool? Idk, might not be warm enough then, I JUST DON’T KNOW.

    This comment is getting long but I feel like we are having our last phone conversation for a while, you know that feeling? The other person keeps saying “well, I should let you…” and then I’m interrupting with just one last thing to keep them on the line. I guess what I’m saying is I’ll miss you in December (although I’ll probably take a short bloggy break myself around the holidays). I’ll see you on The Gram though! Don’t worry, my feed will be flooded with Rex photos and, like, cookies. xoxoxo take care!!!

    • Nicole, next year during NaBloPoMo may I join you with your “rules in place for myself so I don’t constantly feel bad for missing posts.” I soooo get that. I want to be a good bloggy friend, but it has taken time to follow along, read, then comment. It has contributed to why I’m ready for a break but not pushed me into it.

      You’ve seen a bit of the US one way or another. I’ve been to Ontario, Quebec, and Alberta [!] in Canada and would like to see more of the country.

      The last time we were in Vegas, maybe 2017, there was a maintenance workers strike going on meaning that all the moving sidewalks and escalators were not working. And union workers were slowly driving trucks around the strip bringing cars [like taxis] to a halt. On the one hand it was annoying, but on the other hand it was hilarious to see traffic in a gridlock, like you’d see in Manhattan, in Vegas with its cool vibe. We walked to where we needed to be but it took extra planning. Hope you have a less *slow* experience while you’re there.

  67. This was a fun exercise Ally. Well I had 87 which wasn’t so great. I have traveled more across the U.S. than my homeland of Canada where I’ve only been to Ontario. My out West traveling was as a youngster with my parents, a good part of it along Route 66. I would love to visit Route 66 as an adult, with stops in some national parks, but I likely won’t do that. I am leery with COVID, no one to take care of the house and would not travel alone, although there are tour groups that do such a tour. It’s not like traveling carefree back in the day. I have now been blogging one decade – the time has flown by, but I never had any followers here at WP until 2017, just a handful of friends who were e-mail subscribers.   68. I love your map. I’ve probably visited more countries than states, so I guess it’s not for me.

    I’ve had my blog for nine or ten years. I started it in preparation for publishing my first novel. It was set in China during WWII, so I did lots of posts related to the novel. Over the years, I’ve posted about whatever struck my fancy. Why do I continue? It forces me to think of something new to write a few paragraphs about. Also I enjoy the comments and replying to them.

  70. Well, I can honestly say I’ve been to all fifty states, but that also includes some places that I can’t remember because I was too little. We went to my last state (Alaska) right before Covid. We used to take insane cross-country trips when I was a kid. Where I’m lacking is international travel, having only visited Canada and Mexico. My wife and I are in the initial stages of planning a trip to Europe though.

  71. I’ve never lived in the US – but I have driven through many of the Eastern states. I’ve stayed for multiple days in New York, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Florida. But that’s about it for US travel.

    I started blogging in 2021. I blog as a creative outlet. I blog for the community. I blog for fun. I love the whole experience and can’t imagine life without it now. To think just a few years ago this huge part of my current life just…didn’t exist…is a bit mind-blowing.

    Your comment section is the stuff of legends. Kudos for all the time and effort you put into maintaining such a vibrant community.

      I blog for the same reasons as you do. I like wordplay, I like a creative community, I like laughing. I’ve been at blogging since 2004 so it’s an integral part of my life now.

      A secret, I was awful at comments when I first started, didn’t know how to say things gently and got all sorts of people mad at me. SO I decided to study commenting, do better, and voilà a community evolved here.

    • The Travel Architect, it’s not the whole globe but on the bottom of the US map there’s a small “EU ver” where you can make a map of that region. I’m level 17 there.

      I declare my breaks as much as a way to inform others as to keep myself on the straight and narrow, stating when I’ll return. I know me, I’m lazy, and need some structure lest I *forget* to come back.

  74. I just know I’ve been to 21 states, and trying to differentiate between “visited here” “stayed here” and “passed through” seems a bit confusing to me. I’ve only lived in one, and only one city within that state. My level is probably pretty low compared to most others, but that’s OK with me…

    • Having blogged since the days of dinosaurs, I know that it’s easy to find reasons to not keep a blog, BUT it is more difficult to find a reason to put yourself out there and keep a blog going. My blog is less socially directed and more personal, although friends read it because I also write about a life of travel. Mine feels like therapy, but I’ve had it for only about 4 years.

      Threads is FB’s version of Twitter. It started in July and while I’m an early adopter I’m not exactly what you’d call popular but I find it intriguing. Not enough to be there daily but I’m there. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you, too.

  86. A few years ago, we went on a long camping trip which helped us mark “stayed” on many more states than I could have before, who knew that trip would have so many side benefits? 🙃

    We met quite a few delightful couples along the way: one shared with us their “stamp book” where their goal was to get a stamp from every single National Park in the US! They were quite far along into it, too: can you imagine their score?

    What kind of R&R do you guys have planned for December?

  88. Given that I live in Canada, I have not visited many of your beautiful states but have managed to get to about a dozen. I think it’s important to explore our own country, and although I have always lived in the same province, I have had the pleasure of exploring mush of my beautiful country ❤️🇨🇦. I keep writing my blog because I like the show and tell aspect of it, the low-key connections to other people, and having it as a memory aid.     • Barbara, to my knowledge there isn’t a map of the world, but there is a map of the EU that can be found [click on the little letters] at the bottom of the US map. I’m Level 17 in Europe.

  93. Ally, if ever there was a time to take a break, December would be a really great time. I love the blogging community and enjoy being a part of that. There are a lot of very cool people out there! I’ve lived in Texas all my life and suspect I’ll die here as well. I’ve visited a few different states, but none of late. As to what I’ll be doing in December? Hmm…too many things to write here, but a lot of doctor’s appointments, shopping, wrapping, decorating for Christmas — all of the Christmas things, planning for 2024, trying not to get sick and, of course, more writing and blogging! Have a great Christmas and New Year, too, my friend! Mona

  94. I love these kind of “quizzes.” And a visual one – fun. Since one of my bucket list items for years was to visit all 50 states, and hubby worked with me for years to accomplish that (yes, it’s accomplished!), I’ve stayed in most states at least overnight. A number were only drive through (Kansas! Oklahoma! even Delaware – it’s tiny.), but most we stayed in and visited things (from national parks to tourist traps). With summer jobs, I’ve actually lived in 6 states. So my score is 201.

    On the Eu one, I was a level 36. Work based travel.

    There’s a couple of maps of world countries visited where you just highlight the ones you’ve been in…not any “level number”, but it’s another visual. It’s helpful to have been to Russia and Canada…. they color in a lot of the world map!

    Why I blog? To learn new things, get new perspectives, and often to just have a chuckle.

      I’m on Level 17 in Europe, not because I’ve seen a lot, but because I lived in England for a term as part of my English Lit college major. And people try to say English majors have no value! 😉

  98. Hi Ally! I’m from Singapore and have lived in 2 states, MA and NY. I miss living in MA so much and will recall those memories especially during the Christmas season as I spent 2 Christmas in Boston!

    Thanks for sharing that link. It was interesting to see where I have been visually! I have visited 26 states and my level is 88!
